Hartwell Lake - COE/Coneross Park
Overview
Coneross Park offers a tranquil escape on the sprawling shores of Hartwell Lake, one of the Southeast’s largest and most popular recreation destinations. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park provides a classic camping experience characterized by mature hardwood trees and expansive water views. Visitors often choose this location for its peaceful atmosphere and the high standard of maintenance typical of COE facilities. It serves as a premier gateway to outdoor recreation in the Upstate region of South Carolina, providing a quiet alternative to busier commercial parks.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled in Townville, SC, the park sits strategically on the Coneross Creek arm of Lake Hartwell. The terrain is gently rolling and heavily forested, providing ample shade and privacy for RV sites during the warm summer months. The surrounding area is primarily rural, offering a welcome break from urban noise while remaining easily accessible via Interstate 85. Its proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains foothills means the air is fresh and the landscape remains lush and green throughout the peak travel season, creating a picturesque backdrop for every stay.
Amenities & Park Features
The facility features approximately 100 campsites, many of which are equipped with electric and water hookups to accommodate a variety of RV sizes. For those who enjoy life on the water, the park provides a two-lane boat ramp and a courtesy dock for convenient lake access. Essential comforts are well-covered with accessible shower facilities, clean restrooms, and a centrally located dump station. Families often gather at the designated swimming beach or the on-site playground, which provide safe and enjoyable spaces for children to play within the park boundaries.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is a premier activity at Hartwell Lake, which is nationally renowned for its striped and largemouth bass. Boaters can spend days exploring the thousands of acres of water or finding a secluded cove for morning paddleboarding. For a change of pace, a short drive leads to Clemson University, where visitors can tour the South Carolina Botanical Garden. The nearby city of Anderson offers diverse dining and shopping options, while regional parks like Sadlers Creek offer additional hiking trails and wildlife viewing opportunities for the active traveler.
Who This Park Is Best For
Coneross Park is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and anglers who prefer a quiet, rustic environment over a busy resort setting. It is perfectly suited for families looking for an affordable lakeside vacation and RVers who value spacious, wooded campsites with scenic vistas. If your travel style prioritizes outdoor recreation and a deep connection with the natural landscape, this park offers the perfect blend of serenity and convenience for your next South Carolina adventure.

Great campground with nice beaches. Bathrooms could be a bit more cleaner and stocked. Really enjoyed the spacious camp sites. Will come back

Best time I ever had in camping trip .

#94. The playground is standard, a small walk. Felt like there could be more activities. But the cost was only $24 a night for no electricity. The bathrooms closets to us were decent. Had toilet paper but nothing to dry your hands. Showers were not that great. Campsite was nice. Shady. Right next to the water. The people at the window were very nice and had nice inviting attitudes. I’d like to come back when it cools down some.

Love this campground, beautiful sites, BUT one star off because of two things: the bathroom shower curtains leave like a foot gap when "closed". Easy fix. And 2: there is no light switch/reliable motion activated lights in the bathhouse, so when it is cloudy/early morning, there's no light in the bathrooms.
