Hattie Sherwood

Overview

Hattie Sherwood Campground offers a tranquil retreat on the northern shores of Wisconsin's deepest inland lake. This municipal facility provides a classic camping experience where the sound of the wind in the trees and the proximity to the water set the tone for a relaxing stay. It serves as a peaceful gateway for those looking to explore the natural beauty of Green Lake without the intense bustle of larger commercial resorts. The park is well-regarded for its quiet atmosphere and scenic landscape.

Location & Surroundings

Situated directly on the north shore of Big Green Lake, the park is shaded by a canopy of mature trees that provide a sense of seclusion. The location is ideal for those who value scenic views and immediate access to the water. One of the park's best features is the scenic walking path that connects the campground to the downtown area. This allows guests to enjoy a quiet stroll along the shoreline while transitioning from the natural woods to the heart of the community.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features approximately 50 campsites designed to accommodate various RV sizes and tent campers. The facility focuses on providing essential services in a natural environment, including:

  • Water and electrical hookups including 30 and 50 amp service options.
  • Access to clean restroom and shower facilities located within the grounds.
  • A convenient dump station and fresh water fill-up area for self-contained units.

The layout of the park encourages a slow pace, with many sites offering wooded privacy and easy access to the adjacent park lands.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Visitors are just steps away from Hattie Sherwood Beach, a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the clear waters of the lake. Big Green Lake itself is a haven for boating and trophy fishing, known specifically for its lake trout and smallmouth bass. For those who prefer land-based activities, the nearby Tuscumbia Country Club offers historic golfing opportunities, while the local downtown area provides charming boutiques and seasonal festivals within walking distance.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is perfect for nature lovers and couples seeking a quiet, no-frills environment. It is particularly well-suited for travelers with smaller to mid-sized rigs who appreciate a wooded, park-like setting over a resort-style atmosphere. If your goal is to spend your days on the water or exploring a quaint lakeside town before returning to a peaceful campsite, this municipal gem provides the perfect balance of proximity and local charm.

We were work with adults with developmental disabilities and most of them have never had a camping experience. Hattie Sherwood allowed us to bring our clients for day camping experience. Quin, was very helpful in getting us a space and allowing our client the opportunity to experience having a bonfire, hearing ghost stories, and eating smores. The campground was very clean and very peaceful. The restrooms are super clean and accessible for individuals that struggle with mobility. We would highly recommend this campground to others and look forward to more day camping experience with our clients there.

Excellent little campground. Sites aren't too big, but that's not a problem since most of my waking time is spent on the lake or in town. Bathrooms all have running water and are kept clean. Nice beach nearby to swim and launch boats too.

Beautiful area and a perfect spot right by the beach area. Bathrooms were very clean. Improvement request: site 1 was 5 in on the down slope side. Even with all the leveling stuff I brought was still 1.5 in unlevel. Maybe if instead of parking where the wood blocks marked the site if we parked between the trees we could have been level? But a little regrading would do wonders. Other weirdness: the dump station is on the wrong side of the road. Thought about going the wrong way but the roads are so tight if anyone else left at that time it would have been trouble. Just routed it under the rv all the way across.

The campground was quiet and within walking distance of the beach and the boat launch. The other campers kept everything at a respectable volume and it was an enjoyable weekend! Bathrooms were decently cleaned, fire wood was readily available. The only downside was how hilly the campground was and how close together the sites were. We had a great time!. We would absolutely return

Have been camping here for 5 years on Father’s Day weekend with my brother and dad. Quinn, who runs the facilities, is so helpful every year. Right by the lake which is a huge plus as well. All the electric works at all the campsites. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained
