Family friendly campground on a quiet arm of Trinity Lake. Easy to navigate if checking in late. Beach is a bit rocky, bring sandals. Can walk in to swim, better when the lake is having a fuller season. Bigger boats may have a difficult time getting up this arm when lake is shallow, but I saw a few speed boats and kayaks moored here in May. My only feedback -1 star because this is the 2nd time the bathrooms clogged on day 2 of our stay. There are usually others to go to just a few feet away but plumbing is sensitive here. Also closest showers are about 15 mins away at Camp Bushytail, for a $5 fee collected by envelope.

Hayward Flat continues to be a wonderful Forest Service family campground on the edge of lake Trinity with large campsites, access to the lake for boating, water sports, fishing and swimming. All in the history-rich gold mining region in Northern California complete with local stores, restaurants, marinas and everything you need to have a great time. I'll append some example campsite photos taken just before Memorial Day. It's a large campground so there's always room.

Stayed here on 7/19-7/20. The campground is well accessible. Beautiful place. A lot of wasps in the elderberry loop site 87 and around. We left in one night instead of 2 that we planned to stay. Lake is disappointing unless you have a kayak/speedboat. Water is murky so swimming is risky. Restrooms are close by and sufficiently clean. There’s a tap to wash utensil’s outside restroom. There are no showers. No shops within 20 mins. The nearest shop’s at Trinity centre and another at a KOA campsite. No ranger to be seen in our stay, so pretty much on your own. Ps: download offline maps in advance if you are using tmobile because there is no service in area.

Nice campground, the only thing is the lake is low rn. It's still deep enough to swim in, just kinda mucky until you get towards the middle of the lake. Also FYI cicadas are out rn so if you book now as of July 1, 2021 expect the buzzing noise of cicadas while you camp. If you have Verizon you will have cell service. T-mobile and AT&T will have no service, but can get random spots of service if you hike down the right side of the lake (mind you, it will not be for long just long enough to get inundated with missed notifications lol). Even with the cicadas and the low lake it was still an enjoyable camping trip for my friends and I, you also can't beat the senery. However, you can see the lake from the campgrounds but because it's low you do have to walk down to get to it. So if your needing super easy access to the lake this campsite may not be for you. Showers are located at bushytale campground near by. The camp host wasn't really present, but they had a cop that would come by and do rounds at around 6 to make sure everything was in order. We registered online, but it looks like if you don't register online then it's a self check in at the front of the campground.

Beautiful campground. Clean bathrooms, spacious sights. The lake is great for kayaking and swimming. They would benefit from a campground host because there was one camp that played music excessively loud at all hours, early and late - and allowed their dogs to bark out of control. The only negative - but significant because the woke me up and kept me awake nearly every day of the 5 days we were here. Might reconsider coming back with not host to Keep it nice for all the campers.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed in this campground. 1st, before making a reservation I called and was told in order to moor my boat I needed a shoreline campground, so I booked 2: 90 starting Friday, and 89 (shoreline) starting Saturday when it became available. Come to find out upon arrival that was not the case, AND the campsites are so far from the water that mooring safely (depending on what you store in your boat) was impossible. 2nd, the toilets were either out of order or plugged/full the WHOLE TIME, so we had to go to the boat launch down the road or into town to use the toilet, or choose to use the flush toilets as super full vault toilets. Super unsanitary. A supervisor showed up on Saturday saying things would be fixed, but by Monday morning when we left they still were not fixed. I am so upset because otherwise the area was nice, but the campground was not maintained at all. A camp host is needed for sure, and if I come back to Trinity Lake it will not be at this campground unless I bring my own toilet set up. Lakeside sites were quite spacious though, so this may be an option. The lake was beautiful, so two stars.
