Headwaters Lodge & Cabins @ Flagg Ranch

Overview

Situated along the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway, Headwaters Lodge & Cabins @ Flagg Ranch serves as the premier gateway between two of America’s most iconic national parks. This wilderness-style campground offers a rustic yet comfortable retreat for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of the Wyoming backcountry. It provides a balanced experience where the convenience of full hookups meets the raw, untamed spirit of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Location & Surroundings

The park is perfectly positioned in Moran, Wyoming, nestled in a lush pine forest just south of Yellowstone’s south entrance and north of Grand Teton National Park. Surrounded by the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the setting is defined by sweeping mountain vistas and the nearby Snake River. Visitors should expect a true disconnect from the digital world, as the remote location prioritizes natural sounds and starlit skies over modern cellular connectivity and high-speed internet.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find well-maintained sites featuring full hookups with 20, 30, and 50-amp service to accommodate various rig sizes. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings under the stars. On-site facilities include a centralized lodge with a full-service restaurant and saloon, a convenience store for essential supplies, and clean shower and laundry facilities. While the park maintains a rustic vibe, these amenities ensure a comfortable stay in the wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure starts right at your doorstep with access to miles of scenic hiking trails and fly-fishing opportunities along the Snake River. A short drive north leads to Yellowstone’s geothermal wonders, while heading south brings you to the dramatic peaks and alpine lakes of Grand Teton. Wildlife viewing is a primary draw here, with frequent sightings of moose, elk, and grizzly bears occurring throughout the surrounding meadows and woodlands.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts and families who want to maximize their time exploring the national parks without long daily commutes. It is the perfect fit for RVers who value a secluded atmosphere and are comfortable unplugging from technology to reconnect with the outdoors. If you prefer the sound of wind through the lodgepole pines over the hum of a busy city, this high-country sanctuary is your ideal basecamp.

Although the room was ok, you have to request coffee k-cups every day. They only give you 4 for 2 people. Had to request tissues first day as there were only a couple left in the box when we arrived. If description of cabins had said the coffee maker in room was was a keurig, we could've bought those in Jackson instead of ground coffee. Restaurant was mediocre at best. Had same waiter both times we visited. He was the worst waiter I've had in a long time. The steak was so tough the knife could barely cut it. Cook was supposed to be medium rare. Was pink but no juice. And all the food was lukewarm by the time it was served. My advice would be to go somewhere else for this price.

We stayed at Headwaters campground for three days (cabin + tent). The cabins are super clean and the staff at campground is just amazing. We had a flat tire and the staff was prompt in helping us by fixing our tire using a tire patch kit. This saved us a day worth of hassle. The restrooms are clean and I saw security doing round ups a few times which made me feel secure. Overall - definitely worth it!!

Great location near south entrance of Yellowstone and very close to Grand Teton as well. The cabins are small and has heaters only (no AC). There is a restaurant and gas station inside. The food and service at restaurant were excellent. Easy to spot some deers near the lodge itself.

The positive - campground was close to Yellowstone and the Tetons making it an excellent base camp for exploring the parks. It wasn't buggy even though we had periods of rain during our stay. The negative - everything is extremely overpriced. Think about what you should pay at a camp store for things and triple it. It cost 10 dollars in quarters to do a load of laundry (also, there were no quarters in the machine and no one in the camp store or office would make change when I tried to do my laundry. If you're going to make it that expensive to do the laundry, at least accept bills or credit cards). The showers were terrible. They were cramped and the temperature and water pressure would fluctuate constantly. Also, there were no fields, basketball courts, cornhole boards, horseshoe pits or anything associated with family fun if that's important to you. I would stay there again simply because of the proximity to the parks but other than that there's really no draw.

I came with my four friends and we traveled through the Tetons to Yellowstone! It was in the perfect spot and we thought the cabins were great! Of course be aware when you book that some do not have electricity or bathrooms! We found that the bathrooms were very accessible and it was nice having the lodge near by and the gas station. The service was great as well. Food is expensive all around this area so plan for that.
