The view from Joes Neck is awesome, but the people who run the place are the worst. I used to go every year, but the people are nuts- there was a old guy who would not allow a guest to rent a site with us, because she wanted to just visit- they said no- so she said okay then I will by a site for the night, and they said no again. He then said we were trouble makers??? This was because earlier in the week, we just wanted to know if the bathrooms were going to be cleaned (we asked this politely may I add and the lady in the store said: "Its Hermit Island man"- apparently she thought it was Woodstock)- we were blacklisted for the rest of the week. It was absolutely nuts, and we had been going there since the 90's! We never went back- the view is beautiful, but it was no worth the craziness, you go camping to relax, not be attacked

Been going here for nearly fifty years...like forever. Sad that dogs can't come along, but I understand that SOME people let their dogs run loose and caused problems for the beautiful wildlife on the island.

My family's favorite place. We wait all year to get there, and it's worth the 4 hour drive. Creature comforts leave something to be desired, but who cares? Beautiful beaches for campers only. Hiking, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, bird watching, lobster eating, and on and on. We left the campground once in the whole week! You might find cheaper camping. You might find nicer bathrooms. But you won't find an equal to this place. One warning: you must be ready to fend off mosquitoes! Camp fires, citronella candles and bug spray are needed!

My favorite place in the world. Easy access to multiple beaches. Various hiking trails to other beaches. Family oriented. Opportunities to fish. Great campground!

This is a place where families have been coming year after year and love it every time. Anyone who rates this campsite based on cleanliness or how nice the properties are should not be going there in the first place / did not truly enjoy the nature of camping at Hermit Island. Nice facilities would completely take away from the feel of the island in my opinion - when you go to Hermits you are truly roughing it with a tent in the woods and that's why people love it. If you cannot handle that then do not go.
