Heyburn Lake - COE/Sheppard Point offers a tranquil getaway nestled along the shores of a quiet reservoir in northeastern Oklahoma. This US Army Corps of Engineers park provides a scenic lakeside retreat away from the hustle of the city. Visitors often come here to enjoy the dense timber and the calm waters of the 920-acre lake. It is a place where nature takes center stage, offering a peaceful camping experience for those looking to disconnect and recharge in a natural setting.

Location & Surroundings

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is a primary draw here, with the lake being well-stocked with crappie, catfish, and bass. Beyond the water, you can explore the scenic hiking and nature trails that wind through the timber. If you crave a bit of urban excitement, the vibrant city of Tulsa is only a short drive away, offering museums, botanical gardens, and dining. History buffs will enjoy exploring the nearby stretches of historic Route 66 in Sapulpa, which features classic Americana and local landmarks.

We enjoyed our stay at Sheppard Point campground at Hayburn lake, just West of Tulsa/Sapulpa. They have flat, level pads for campers with electric and water. Dump station by one set of bathrooms (flushing with sinks, usually soap, but some with bugs) with a boat dock perfect for kayaks and small boats. This lake was

Fun place for a short visit. Quiet and not crowded M - Th. The weekends can reach full capacity and it gets loud and the restrooms get destroyed! We ended up using our own shower and toilet (RV) because someone vomited all over the men's room and the women's room had little kids playing in the sinks and a shower. It gets BAD on the weekends! They have a cleaning lady but said she only comes once in the mornings. You're Camping -. Bring your own Toilet Paper, Hand Soap and Trash bags. People always steal what is provided in the restrooms. BRING YOUR OWN!!

The campground itself is picturesque and sites are nice. The 30 A power at the site I stayed in did not work (site 07). Also they close a gate blocking vehicle access to the campground at night. There is no signage notifying campers of this and when I checked in the camp host did not inform me of this. So last night I had to park in the grass along the road outside the campground and walk in. Today nobody is in the access booth and nobody answers the door at the trailer at the entrance so I still have no idea what time they lock the gate to the campground. It seems like there should be a sign announcing this procedure to out of town guests.
