Wow! All the years my family has camped one thing has been consistently true - camping people are really nice -UNTIL TODAY AT HICKORY NUT CAMPGROUND. The owners and their daughter were some of the most hostile, unpleasant people my wife and I have ever come across. Rather than trying to help us with a logistical problem, they attacked us and were super aggressive. As a result, we refused to waste another minute in their run down little campground. Spare yourself the drama- life is too short to have to put up with hostile, angry owners who don’t care about their customers!

I honestly don’t know where to start. Wife booked us a nice camping getaway to do some hiking and relaxing. Please and i say please drive through this campground before booking!! Totally miss leading!! Online pictures are awesome but wait till you see what the camera doesn’t show you. Its a run down trashy trailer park. Junk everywhere with old wooden porches. . I will say owner or front desk lady did give us a full refund. But they are much nicer cheaper places to stay.

I've been meaning to write this review for awhile so apologies to the owners. This campground is fantastic and the owners are great. The camp is nestled between Broad River and the mountains which makes for beautiful scenery, especially for those of us used to less inclined terrain. The entire area is clean and well kept and the selection of sites will suit a variety of camping styles. The location enables an affordable bed down location for families looking to enjoy the Appalachians without breaking the budget. Fully recommend for anyone looking to enjoy nature, camp, or vacation on a budget.

As we end our 5 months as first time snowbirds I sit here looking at all this beauty and wonder if this is the best campground we’ve experienced so far. As Chimney Rock loses it’s Southern Charm and becomes $20 burgers, craft beer and made in China trinkets, you can step back in time at this rustic treasure. If your expectations are paved roads and luxurious amenities there are resorts nearby that are more suitable. For someone who’s traveled to this town with 5 generations over the last 50+ years I will say this campground is quite a magical experience.

Located just past the hubbub of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, Hickory Nuts Falls is a great spot to call home for a weekend. We went in early November, so most of the Fall colors had made their appearance. This is a pretty small family-owned campground with pretty tightly packed spaces, but we never felt cramped because we got the back spot (the bear spot according to the owner). The road circling around to the backside spots is a little sketchy in spots, so if you've got a low car just...drive carefully. This place has got the feel of like...a time share for sheds. The covered camping platform was nice even if it was rickety and bared-wired. Great to have electricity for a few essentials, but you can still ignore all that and have a more primitive experience (and still have your tent covered from the worst of it). Just make sure you've got a good pad. If you're going full electric, bring a few cords and power strips so you can take advantage. They've got bathrooms, showers, and firewood on-site, so you'll be comfortable here for a whole weekend (or more). Staff (owner) was great, said they lived just down the road and could get in touch with them if we needed. I'll take a look next time I'm in the area - great value and experience just off the main drag.
