Hollister Hills SRVA
Overview
Hollister Hills SVRA offers an expansive and thrilling playground for off-road enthusiasts set within the scenic Gabilan Mountains. As California's first State Vehicular Recreation Area, it provides a unique blend of natural beauty and high-energy adventure across thousands of acres. The park is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones to accommodate different vehicle types, ensuring a specialized and safe environment for every visitor who brings their equipment for a weekend of fun under the sun.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just a short drive south of the town of Hollister, the park is characterized by its rolling oak-studded hills and deep, rugged canyons. The significant elevation changes throughout the property provide sweeping views of the San Benito Valley and the distant peaks. While the roar of engines is the primary soundtrack during the day, the landscape remains surprisingly lush, offering a rustic escape that feels worlds away from the busy coastal cities and interstate traffic.
Amenities & Park Features
RVers should prepare for a primitive dry camping experience rather than a traditional full-service resort. While the park does not provide electricity or sewer hookups, it offers essential features for a comfortable stay in the wilderness:
- Access to vault toilets and basic chemical facilities located near the camping loops.
- Individual campsites equipped with sturdy picnic tables and fire rings for evening gatherings.
- Large, level parking areas in spots like the Lodge Campground that can accommodate various rig sizes.
Water is available at communal spigots, but most experienced travelers prefer to arrive with full fresh water tanks and plenty of supplies to remain self-sufficient during their visit.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the extensive trail system, which includes over 128 miles of paths for motorcycles and ATVs in the Lower Ranch area. For those with high-clearance 4WD vehicles, the Upper Ranch features challenging obstacles and scenic ridge routes. Beyond the park gates, visitors can explore the unique volcanic rock formations at Pinnacles National Park or visit the historic mission in nearby San Juan Bautista for a dose of California history and local culture.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for dedicated off-road enthusiasts who prioritize direct trail access and technical terrain over luxury resort amenities. It is a favorite for active families teaching younger generations how to ride in a designated environment. If you enjoy a community-oriented atmosphere where neighbors share a passion for engines and the great outdoors, this rugged California destination is a perfect fit for your specific travel style.

Has plenty of things to do for a weekend trip… has trails you can take a completely stock vehicle on all the way to be willing to completely total your vehicle if your up for the challenge. Overall super fun trip… made it up some of the black diamond trails in an almost stock TRD off road 4Runner (stock tires, 3in lift, and rock sliders). Both of the obstacles corses are super fun for beginners and even experts just to get a feel for a rig. Amazing campground with showers… although didn’t use them. Definitely want to come here again and check out more of the off roading cuz the other site was closed

Good place for off-road vehicles. Didn't like that the trails are both ways. Nice challenging terrain if u choose to.

Great place for the entire family. I have raced motocross with OTHG, and hare scrambles with HHORA and Ghostriders. Amazing venue and plenty of parking. Beautiful location and very quiet at night.
