The park balances conservation with recreation, providing a quiet retreat just south of the Wisconsin border.

Location & Surroundings

Situated along the banks of the Rock River, the preserve is located in the charming village of Rockton, Illinois. The surrounding area is defined by rolling landscapes and dense woodlands that provide ample shade for the camping loops. The proximity to the river ensures a steady breeze and scenic views, creating a natural corridor for local wildlife. Travelers will appreciate the easy access to local amenities while feeling miles away from the hustle of city life.

The campground features 50 electric campsites that accommodate various RV sizes within a wooded setting. While the sites provide power, a central dump station and fresh water fill-up are available for guest use. The park also includes multiple picnic shelters and a well-maintained playground for families. For those who enjoy outdoor sports, the preserve offers ball diamonds and open green spaces, ensuring there is plenty of room for recreation right outside your doorstep.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Just a short drive away, the historic downtown Rockton offers unique boutiques, local eateries, and a glimpse into Illinois history. Additionally, the preserve is conveniently located near the Nygren Wetland Preserve for those interested in birding and ecological restoration.

Nice little calm and relaxing campground. Not a whole lot of amenities, but there is a nice playground just a short walk away and a great bike path to utilize. The hosts are very attentive to make sure your stay is pleasant.

Peaceful, clean, and beautiful. The restroom is the cleanest I've seen at a park/preserve.

This place is Very nice!!! Beautiful walk ways to jog and what not. Lots of trees and thick forest with wild life! Deer, turkeys, pheasant. All very spectacular! Also a nice quiet hidden boat launch, that is almost unused. Good place to practice, if you’re new to launching a boat. I can’t say enough good about this place, it’s great and I’m glad it’s available for us to enjoy! 10/10!!

Love this park! The mosquitos were bad this year, but they're bad down by the river too, and it is nature after all. 😉 Its the season (visited in Aug), but otherwise, clean toilets, good water, and wonderful hosts! 😎 Good roads in and out. Beautiful drive coming into the park, but some sites are a little close to the outer road, so if you want seclusion, be careful while picking your site. One of the best small parks in the area!!! Update: need to fix the lights in the vault toilets, and need to have a hand sanitizer station at EVERY one of them. Thank you.

A great little campground, the host was a pleasure as well. Kayaking and fishing off the river. Wild turkeys were right off the campsite, which gave for some pretty wild noises all night. Tent camping $13 resident $23 non resident of Winnebago county. This is a per tent fee from my understanding not per campsite. $7 firewood bundle about 12 pieces. Hike trail (path rather) was a great little scenic walk.
