Hoosier/Indian-Celina Lake Rec Area
Overview
Tucked within the rolling hills of the Hoosier National Forest, the Indian-Celina Lake Recreation Area offers a serene retreat for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature. This federal recreation site surrounds two distinct bodies of water, providing a quiet landscape for RV camping and outdoor exploration near Bristow, Indiana. It serves as a premier destination for those who appreciate the rustic beauty of the Midwest and the tranquility of a forest setting.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the heart of southern Indiana, the park is defined by its dense hardwood forests and rugged topography. The location provides a buffer from the noise of modern life, immersing visitors in a landscape of limestone outcrops and winding ravines. The nearby Ohio River Valley adds to the regional charm, making the drive into the park as scenic as the destination itself, with canopy-covered roads that change beautifully with the seasons.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features two primary camping loops, many of which offer electric hookups suitable for various RV sizes. While the sites maintain a rustic feel, visitors have access to necessary comforts to support their stay. Notable features include:
- Spacious, shaded sites equipped with heavy-duty fire rings and picnic tables.
- Access to pressurized water spigots and clean vault toilets located throughout the loops.
- Two dedicated boat ramps providing easy access for electric-motor watercraft.
The layout is designed to provide privacy, with many sites buffered by thick vegetation.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Activity here centers on the water and the woods. Anglers can enjoy quiet mornings fishing for largemouth bass and sunfish, while history buffs can explore the historic Rickenbaugh House, a stone home dating back to the 1870s located near the Celina boat ramp. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the Two Lakes Loop Trail offers 16 miles of scenic hiking that skirts the shorelines and traverses deep forest ridges, providing excellent birdwatching opportunities.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for RVers who value natural solitude and a slower pace of travel. It is a perfect match for hikers, photographers, and families who enjoy traditional camping activities like evening campfires and stargazing. Because the park lacks high-speed internet and commercial amenities, it is best suited for those looking to unplug and experience the Hoosier National Forest in its most authentic and peaceful form.

This place is pretty and the historical house is super cool. However, I came from Evansville to enjoy a boys trip with my friends that I don’t get to see often. First off, the guy at the pay booth had no idea what he was doing. He charged us for three nights when we were only staying for 2 nights. My friend arrived Thursday night and they woke him up from his tent at 7 am to get his spot registered even though he reserved online days before. Then Saturday morning comes around and apparently the campground owners camp in the middle of the sites. So a staff member decided to come bring her dog over to our site (which made our dogs freak out) then she continued to stare at my until I finally turned my music down. She then makes a comment saying “that’s better” . I tried to tell her to get her dog away from our site as he was getting worked up by her dog and she just stood there looking at me . Will not be camping here again. Update… we left early. And are now planning another trip elsewhere. If you’re willing to drive, Shawneetown national forest is much nicer. Pounds hollow is a great spot to enjoy camping and the beauty of nature. The camp sites are well kept and you never have to worry about being stalked or “baby sat” . While camping. The sites have much more privacy and you only pay $11 per night. They also do not have staff on site begging you to pay $24 dollars per car for 3 nights.

Quiet, well maintained, great camp hosts, clean shower and restroom facilities.

Awesome place to camp. The managers, Lonnie and Sharon are very nice, friendly and they make you feel welcome! The host, Gene and Julie, are very nice and friendly as well! I’ve been camping here for about 15 + years. I do a little fishing until the grass in the lake at the ramp gets too bad to get the trolling motor through as it is now.

Favorite place to camp at North face location. Has two lakes and the old Rickenbaugh house built in 1874. The restroom facilities are nice with hot shower and pull down seat so you can sit with detachable shower head.

Nice enough for a National Forest campground. Older facility but kept clean by the contractor. When we arrived, we hadn’t even finished parking on a site when the camp host sped past us in his golf cart on our right when I was just initiating a back up turn. He proceeded to block the road so I could go no further. He was quickly joined by another host in a pickup truck. They were both on us before we could even settle into our chosen site. While they were friendly enough it felt like I was being assaulted for the camping fee. A very odd experience that I hope they dont repeat with other campers. Enjoy your stay.
