Hope Bay Campground
Overview
Hope Bay Campground offers a tranquil escape on the eastern shores of the Bruce Peninsula. This family-operated park provides a genuine connection to the natural beauty of Georgian Bay, offering a peaceful atmosphere that sets it apart from more crowded tourist hubs. The park serves as a gateway to the Niagara Escarpment, providing a rugged yet welcoming environment for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the scenic outdoors of Ontario.
Location & Surroundings
Located just north of Wiarton, ON, the park is nestled in the heart of Hope Bay. The landscape is defined by towering limestone cliffs and the crystal-clear waters of the bay. One of the most significant features of this location is the Bruce Trail, which runs directly through the area, offering hikers immediate access to world-class trekking through lush forests and along dramatic rocky outcrops that overlook the water.
Amenities & Park Features
The standout feature of this park is the private sandy beach, which is shallow and perfect for families with children. The campground offers a mix of seasonal and overnight sites designed for various RV sizes. On-site facilities include clean washrooms, hot showers, and a camp store for essentials like ice and firewood. For children, the on-site playground provides a safe place to play, while the calm bay waters are ideal for launching kayaks or paddleboards.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park gates, the Bruce Peninsula offers endless exploration. A short drive brings you to the charming town of Wiarton or the scenic vistas of Lion's Head. Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days exploring the Bruce Peninsula National Park, though many prefer the quieter trails found right at Hope Bay. The area is also well-regarded for its dark skies, making it a spectacular spot for stargazing after the sun sets over the cliffs.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for active families and nature enthusiasts who prioritize natural scenery over resort-style commercialism. If you enjoy waking up to the sound of waves and having direct access to hiking trails, this park fits your travel style perfectly. It is particularly well-suited for those seeking a quiet home base while exploring the greater Bruce Peninsula region without the heavy crowds of Tobermory.

Enjoyed my stay. Went for one night mid-august during busy season and then again first week of september. Had a great time both times. I went with just myself and my dog and felt pretty safe. They have a small private beach but it’s nice and peaceful and great having access to the water on a campsite. I called multiple times before booking with questions and they answered all my questions kindly and patiently. Campground is well preserved and looks like they have some events for campers/kids during busier times which is super cute. Heard from 2 other regular campers that they had car trouble in the past and the owners were very helpful and went out of their way to help them out too.

From our 1st stay four years ago, we always go back to Hope Bay at least once a year, often twice. We have a 25ft trailer and every site we have had has been great. The location is so beautiful, the owners helpful and friendly...we love it.

The owner is awesome, and very accommodating, her staff is above the board and will do anything you need and more. Sites are maintained and always clean and ready for the next person checking in. Beach is amazing, almost feels like being in Florida on the keys, just you are in Ontario, and the water is fresh, not salt, and not as warm, lol. Crystal clear water and lots of things to do away from the campsites, thanks Julie for the great hospitality and hope you enjoyed the smoked beef brisket. Mike and Karen site 302 from July 1st to July 6th.

Amazing weekend We had. Was very surprised that we were able to get a site on Canada Day long weekend. The staff was awesome, super friendly and accommodating. The park was clean and organized. We got a tent site and everything was great. Decent size, clean and trimmed. We will definitely be back with the kids next time.
