Horse Thief Campground and Resort

Most beautiful and peaceful RV campground in and around Hill City. Secluded, long sites, great for class A towing. Recently became an KOA, was Horse-thief RV. In afternoon , in back of park in the rock formations, the face of the horsethief legend can be seen. This is a huge campground, the back-hill tent only sites are probably the best anywhere. The park water is from a well, so might want to bring bottled, as is high in iron content.

The hosts were very friendly and it is a perfect location central to all the attractions in the area. Cleanest restrooms we've seen and the showers have lots of hooks. Only drawback is the weak wifi signal from our site but they are working on it. Nice homey place we'd definitely come back if we're in the area.

This is probably the best privately owned campsite experience we have ever had. Every staff member we encountered was incredibly friendly, helpful and cheerful. Even though we pulled in late at 9pm after hours, they were right there when we pulled in to help us back in to our spot and welcome us. The campground was large and spacious with lots amenities for kids and areas to explore. Bathroom and showers were nice and clean. Location was great, right off needles highway and close to mount Rushmore. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed here in a camper cabin for 3 nights in July. The staff was friendly from check in to check out. The bathrooms were always clean, and our camper cabin was clean and comfortable. It had both AC and a heater. Tip-bring an extension cord/outlet strip. We loved sitting on the porch while enjoying the view! The location was great for exploring the Black Hills! We would stay again when visiting the beautiful Black Hills. Thank you!

We loved our stay last weekend at the campground. The staff as all very kind when we checked in, led us to our spot and even helped back in the camper. They spent time showing us the map, going over amenities, and making sure we knew everything that was needed to know. The staff always said hi and was friendly to our kids throughout our stay. They had a great little pool and seating area. They also had a jumping pillow that the kids loved, and a fun playground. They also had a scavenger hunt that the kids were obsessed with, and they loved their prizes. There was also a cool mining area (rocks sold separately) that the kids enjoyed looking at. This was our first time bringing a dog and we loved that they had a fenced off dog play area for them to run around in. There was also a dog washing station. The bathrooms were super clean which was great, and located at convenient areas throughout the campground. There were dish washing stations available there as well. We had a great stay, and would love to stay there again.

This Campground is at the heart of the Black Hills. My Family, Friends, & I have stayed here many times, and Loved it every time. The scenery is great & the owners were nice people. It was the closest camping I could find to Mt. Rushmore & Hill City is very close for supplies. ššš

My husband and I stayed at this campground for 3 nights and it is the nicest campground we have ever been to! It is tucked back in and nice and cozy spots. The office people are so nice and make you feel welcome. The showers and bathrooms are the cleanest we have ever seen. It has full hookups and alot of spots, surrounded by beautiful hills and scenery. It even has laundry facilities to wash and dry your clothes

Me and my family spent 5 nights in our old pop-up camper, we were on lot 62 had great views from our sight it's kinda tucked back and more private. The deer came in 3 different time's to say hello, my kid's loved it. The campground was very nice and clean staff were so kind and helpful. I really liked that they have laundry on sight, helps with those long trips out. Oh and this campground is right in the middle of everything you would want to do/see. Mount Rushmore is right down the road so is Custer State Park and also Crazy Horse Memorial and many other's. We will definitely stay here again.

Best yet! Spectacular setting, beautiful grassy pull through sites with shade trees, picnic tables, fire pits, full hook-ups⦠store, bathrooms, laundry room etc clean, cute, well kept. Tent sites are the best weāve seen. (Big, grassy, tucked back up into rolling hills & valleys.) Friendly, hands on staff. Quiet & courteous neighbors (except the one couple with the barking dogs!) Tons of families, with kids running & playing & swimming⦠decent pool, basketball court, playground, even a sluice box (purchase bags of dirt in the camp store & let your kids āmineā for gems & fossils! Easy drive to Rushmore. Town of Custer nearby with souvenir shops & a brewery worth visiting (the āPounding Fathersā š¤£). Horse Thief Lake just down the road. We enjoyed the campground so much we stayed an extra night! Will DEFINITELY be back!

Great clean facilities. Would recommend porch lights being placed.
