Hyner Run

Overview

Hyner Run State Park offers a serene and revitalizing escape within the vast mountains of North Central Pennsylvania. This destination is defined by its lush wooded landscape and the gentle flow of the namesake trout stream that meanders through the campground grounds. It serves as a primary gateway to the rugged Pennsylvania Wilds, providing a tranquil atmosphere for those looking to disconnect from the modern world and truly immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the deep forest.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away in North Bend, PA, the park is almost entirely enveloped by the Susquehannock State Forest. The local terrain is characterized by steep, emerald mountains and deep, rocky valleys, creating a dramatic and secluded backdrop for your RV stay. Its remote location ensures minimal light pollution and traffic noise, making it a premier spot for stargazing and birdwatching while remaining easily accessible via well-maintained mountain roads that offer stunning vistas at every turn.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features 30 sites equipped with electric hookups that accommodate a variety of travel trailers and motorhomes. Each site includes a paved parking pad, a picnic table, and a sturdy fire ring for your evening campfires. While the park maintains a peaceful, rustic feel, visitors have access to essential modern conveniences to make their stay comfortable. Features include:

  • Modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers.
  • A large, seasonal swimming pool and a family-friendly playground.
  • A convenient sanitary dump station and multiple fresh water spigots.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short, scenic drive leads to the iconic Hyner View State Park, where visitors can watch hang gliders launch over the Susquehanna River valley from one of the state's most famous overlooks. Avid hikers will appreciate the proximity to the Donut Hole Trail, which passes directly through the park and offers miles of challenging terrain for exploration. Additionally, the cold waters of Hyner Run are a popular spot for seasonal trout fishing, drawing anglers from across the region.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who prefer a quiet, natural setting over the bustle of a commercial resort. It is a favorite for trout anglers and backpackers seeking direct access to expansive forest trail systems. Because the campsites are nestled among mature trees, the park is best suited for small to mid-sized RVs and campers who value a genuine, authentic Pennsylvania mountain experience where nature takes center stage.

Quiet state park, stream runs right next to it. Good camp site and park if your into hiking and fishing in the stream. Stayed for the Hyner trail challenge, great event!

Very nice little camp ground tucked away in Sproul State Forest. Pool for those hot summer days, Miles of Hiking Trails and Creeks to fish. We'll maintained and nice Bathroom Shower facilities. Close to North Bend and Renovo, Restaurants and Bars in town or take a drive on 44 and visit Pat Reeders or Black Forest Inn.

Very pretty park we visited in the dead of winter so I imagine it’s more beautiful once it gets warmer and the green comes and everything comes back to life.

Beautiful, peaceful campground with tall evergreen trees for shade and the constant babbling of the stream. Some sites definitely seem more workable for a camper than a tent, and some seemed like they might get quite soggy in the rain. Sites 22, 23, and 24 (on the bend of the campground road) looked like they might be the nicest, but are also the furthest from the bathrooms. Modern, clean bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers. Outdoor sink for washing dishes or clothes. The pool looks well maintained, however we were there just before it opened for the season. Small play area with swings, a slide, and a basketball hoop.
