Idaho Panhandle/Outlet

Overview

The Outlet Campground, nestled within the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest camping experience. Located at the southern tip of Priest Lake where it transitions into the Priest River, this site provides a serene, natural setting for those seeking a quiet escape. Visitors find themselves surrounded by a dense forest canopy of cedar, hemlock, and fir trees, offering excellent privacy and shade. It serves as a rustic gateway for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of Northern Idaho while remaining steps away from world-class water recreation.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Priest River, Idaho, the campground is defined by its proximity to the breathtaking shores of Priest Lake. Often referred to as Idaho's Crown Jewel, the area is famous for its crystal-clear water and the dramatic backdrop of the Selkirk Mountains. The name refers to the specific point where the lake waters begin their journey down the Priest River. The surrounding landscape features ancient groves of cedar and pockets of sandy beach, making it one of the most picturesque locations in the entire Panhandle region.

Amenities & Park Features

As a Forest Service facility, this park focuses on a natural experience rather than resort-style luxuries. Travelers will find spacious gravel pads suitable for various RV sizes, though it is important to note there are no utility hookups available on-site. Each campsite is equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings. The facility provides vault toilets and potable water via hand pumps during the peak season. While there is no dump station within this specific loop, one is conveniently located nearby at the Luby Bay Campground for a small fee.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is direct access to Priest Lake for boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Anglers often frequent the area for world-class trout fishing in the cool, deep waters of the lake and river. Land-based explorers can access the Beach Trail #1, which stretches along the shoreline, offering level paths and stunning lake vistas. For those willing to venture further, the Upper Priest Lake Navigation Channel provides a unique opportunity to navigate between the main lake and the secluded, wilderness-protected upper waters.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prioritize natural beauty and tranquility over modern amenities like Wi-Fi or electricity. It is a perfect fit for families who enjoy unplugging and spending their days at the sandy swimming beach. If you prefer a quiet, wooded atmosphere where the sounds of the wind through the trees and the gentle flow of the river take center stage, this rustic Forest Service gem is an excellent choice for your Idaho itinerary.

I used my tent and did have a hard time sleeping with all the generators running heat. No camp host. Some very nice folks and some well? Priest is a beautiful place!

My Grandson took His 5 year old son up camping for His birthday, My Great Grandson, We had a great time, Deer came up within 20 ft of us beautiful, lot of room, the sites are large, plenty of space play, trails for hikeing, it rained off and on all day, I would go again, if You like things wild. Give it a try!

Big camping spots and super clean toilets! Most spots are sloping so it can tough to find a flat space for a tent. There are no bear proof containers so we had to hang our food and it was nearly impossible to find a suitable tree. We asked the hostess for guidance but she wasn’t very helpful. Still it’s a beautiful spot. Unfortunately there wasn’t a beach but it’s great for paddle boarding etc.
