As the only remaining beach ridge shoreline left in the state, the park provides an immersive experience in a rare landscape. It is a natural, scenic destination that focuses on the beauty of sand dunes and marshes rather than resort-style amenities, making it a favorite for those who appreciate the quiet, rugged charm of a true state park setting.

Despite its proximity to these major cities, the campground feels worlds away, surrounded by diverse ecosystems including forests, prairies, and expansive sandy beaches. The park stretches over six miles of shoreline, allowing visitors to enjoy the calming sounds of Lake Michigan while remaining within easy reach of regional conveniences.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features nearly 250 sites designed to accommodate various camping styles. While the park is more rustic than a private RV resort, it provides essential comforts for a comfortable stay. The layout is well-shaded by mature trees, ensuring a peaceful environment for relaxing after a long day of exploring the extensive trail system.

Really good location if you're in between camping and 'glamping'. There were no raccoons out. The restrooms were a distance if you stay in the 110-149 assigned slots area. The back restroom/shower room area places the women near the back area. That should be reconsidered. Otherwise, it's a great way to be nearby but still have a camping experience.

Pros: beautiful area, on the lake front. Big enough space electricity Local store for firewood, ice, snack, but store of course is over priced.. just leave park and go outside for small items. Cons: bathroom smell horrible Not enough grass area, mainly gravel Grass not maintained.

The proximity to the Lake is why this campground exists. Camp slots are side by side. No privacy between them at all. Park was conceived in 1948. Some of the concession buildings are closed now due to shoreline erosion and age. Park has a store for food & supplies. The location is all about the lake.
