Indian Mary Park
Overview
Indian Mary Park is widely considered a standout destination within the Josephine County Parks system. Situated directly on the banks of the legendary Rogue River, this park covers 60 acres and is rich in local history and lore. Named after a Native American woman who held a land claim here in the late 1800s, the park now serves as a lush, green retreat for travelers seeking a perfect balance between natural river beauty and well-maintained public facilities.
Location & Surroundings
Conveniently located in Merlin, Oregon, just a short drive from the city of Grants Pass, the park is nestled deep within the scenic Rogue River canyon. The surrounding landscape is characterized by steep, timbered hills and the rushing, crystal-clear waters of the river. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by towering mature trees that offer plenty of shade, creating a cool, forest-like environment that feels secluded while remaining easily accessible for large RV rigs and trailers.
Amenities & Park Features
The park offers a variety of camping options to suit different styles, including RV sites with electrical hookups, traditional tent sites, and several cozy yurts. Park features include:
- Clean restrooms and coin-operated showers
- A professional 18-hole disc golf course
- Dedicated boat ramp for Rogue River access
- A large playground and picnic areas
These amenities ensure that both short-term visitors and long-term campers have everything they need for a comfortable stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Being situated directly on the river makes this a prime spot for world-class salmon fishing and high-energy whitewater rafting. Many guests use the park as a convenient home base for exploring the nearby Hellgate Canyon or booking a famous guided jet boat tour out of Grants Pass. If you prefer land-based adventures, the surrounding Siskiyou National Forest offers numerous hiking trails that showcase the diverse ecology and rugged terrain of the Southern Oregon wilderness.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for outdoor-loving families and large groups who want a social atmosphere with plenty of onsite activities to keep everyone entertained. It is a favorite for professional river rafters and casual anglers who need quick water access without sacrificing modern comforts like showers and hookups. If you enjoy a park that feels like a well-kept community hub rather than a lonely wilderness site, Indian Mary Park provides a premier riverside camping experience for your next trip.

Camp staff were awesome, cleanest camp bathrooms I've ever seen in my life there was ample space between campsites there was ice and wood for sale on the property at the office clear instructions on where we could park etc It was a great experience We haven't camped in 10 years because of a bad experience in Bay City so this was refreshing 🤗

We came here for our 25 year anniversary and it’s was amazing!! We loved it so much we’re planning on making this our yearly anniversary trip from Fresno California. We came in first week of march the park was quite clean and very beautiful! Very well taken care of and the park hosts Rod and Tiffany were amazing!!! We had such a great time visiting with them! Can’t wait to go back! I have never seen a cleaner and more well maintained park! All around 10 star experience! Can’t wait to go back!!!!

Such a nice park. Sites are paved and mostly level and most have enough room around them. Great views of fall leaves and the river. Excellent firewood. Bathrooms and showers are clean and bright. Only flaws are that they are cash only and the two lane road it sits on is busier than you would expect, so there is some road noise.

Located on the banks of the Rogue River, Indian Mary is the smallest Indian reservation ever created. It's a beautiful camping spot to enjoy for a couple of days, especially in the autumn 🍁🍂 There are lots of walking trails around the campsite and along the river. It's dog friendly and there's lots of grassy areas for your pups to run around. It's a great place for kayaking and fishing as well. You can book a campsite online as it does get very busy over the holiday periods. Highly recommend a visit to enjoy Nature's beauty.
