The International Peace Garden in Dunseith, ND, is more than just a travel destination; it is a 2,330-acre tribute to the enduring friendship between the United States and Canada. Established in 1932, this sprawling botanical sanctuary offers a unique opportunity for RVers to camp directly within a world-renowned garden. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative, characterized by manicured floral displays and rolling hills that span the international border, providing a serene backdrop for any road trip.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the scenic Turtle Mountains along the border of North Dakota and Manitoba, the park sits at a high elevation compared to the surrounding plains. The landscape features dense forests of aspen and birch, interspersed with shimmering lakes and vibrant wetlands. Because the campground is located within the international border zone, travelers should remember to bring proper identification, as you will pass through customs when departing the park grounds.

  • Water and electrical hookups available at most sites.
  • Access to a centrally located modern shower house and restrooms.

Beyond the campsites, visitors can explore a massive conservatory with a vast collection of cacti and succulents, as well as several peaceful hiking and biking trails that wind through the woods.

Visitors can spend days exploring the Sunken Garden and the iconic floral clock, which are centerpiece attractions of the facility. The 9/11 Memorial, featuring steel beams from the World Trade Center, offers a poignant space for reflection. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy birdwatching and kayaking in the nearby Lake Metigoshe State Park, while those looking for a local landmark can visit the nearby town of Dunseith to see the famous Turtle Mountain monuments.

So many beautiful flowers! The Chokecherry ice cream in the café is the best ice cream I've ever had. The chapel at the far end of the garden holds a lot of intrigue (and a lot of echoes!), and there are several interesting stops when you drive the ND side of the garden. This experience was so good, on so many levels. I can't wait to return! Because you leave the United States to enter the Garden, bring your Real ID driver's license, or driver's license and birth certificate (if you don't have Real ID), or your passport for re-entry into the US.

Beautiful place, but for a one-time visit. This place is like a provincial park. Wild nature in many places. Plenty of picnic spots. On the border of the USA and Canada there are amazing and long flower beds. The park has a beautiful gallery of succulents.

We drove here on a Saturday from Minot, ND. If you drive here make sure you have a valid Passport or some kind of form of identification to enter back into the states. Aside from that, this park is beautiful. It's large and the gardens are truly breathtaking. We went during the end of August once the leaves started changing colors and it's truly a beautiful place to go have a picnic or just enjoy the scenery. I'm from Texas and down there we have the Botanical gardens, but this place was even better in my opinion. Quiet, and so peaceful. I'm definitely coming back again. Also I'd like to add that there's so many wild turkeys roaming about, be careful not to let them in the gardens.

The staff member at the front gate was incredibly nice and informative. We could tell that she really enjoys her job and interacting with guests. The gardens were spacious with various plants and colors. The cacti inside the greenhouse were super neat! I liked how they plants were identified and told us which region they are from.

Great place to spend the day. Lots of walking trails. The gardens and fountain is a nice destination for pictures with the family. The large indoor catus exhibit is worth the price of admission. They have a small 911 memorial that was neat to see.
