Jacomo Campground

Overview

Jacomo Campground provides a serene escape within the expansive Fleming Park system in Lee's Summit, Missouri. This county-managed facility offers a perfect blend of modern convenience and rustic charm, making it a popular choice for those looking to enjoy the outdoors without leaving the greater Kansas City metro area. The park is highly regarded for its shaded campsites and immediate proximity to a wide variety of recreational water activities. It serves as a gateway to exploring the natural beauty of the region while maintaining accessibility to urban comforts.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the eastern shores of Lake Jacomo, the campground is nestled within over 7,800 acres of protected parkland. The environment is characterized by rolling hills and dense stands of native hickory and oak trees, which provide a sense of seclusion and privacy. Travelers will find themselves immersed in a tranquil landscape that feels remarkably remote, even though it remains conveniently located near the intersection of major transit routes. The surrounding woods are home to diverse local wildlife, adding to the authentic Missouri outdoor experience.

The facility features 57 well-maintained campsites designed to accommodate various camping styles. Visitors can enjoy a range of practical features including:

  • Full hookup sites providing water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical service for larger rigs.
  • Access to modern restrooms and hot, heated showers throughout the season.
  • A practical on-site laundry facility for those on extended road trips.
  • A family-friendly playground and sturdy picnic tables at every individual site.

The layout is designed to accommodate both seasoned RVers and those looking for a more traditional camping feel with fire rings provided at every location.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days at the Lake Jacomo Marina, which offers various boat rentals and is known for some of the best fishing in the state for crappie and catfish. History buffs should prioritize a visit to Missouri Town 1855, a living history museum located within the park that depicts life in the mid-19th century. For those who prefer land-based activities, the area boasts an extensive network of multi-use trails perfect for hiking or mountain biking through lush timber and native Missouri prairies.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is perfectly suited for recreational boaters and families who desire a quiet retreat with a wealth of activities right at their doorstep. It is an excellent choice for local weekend travelers seeking a high-quality getaway without a long drive from the city. Because of its peaceful environment and proximity to the lake, it also appeals strongly to birdwatchers and nature photographers. This was our first time staying here (second weekend in September), we have a pop up camper and we stayed in spot 60. There was no shade in our spot, which wasn’t an issue for us because during the day we were out exploring. The hostess was very welcoming, and kept a good eye on the entire campsite (she would drive around checking in, and offered the kiddos snacks/treats). The have a really nice playground which was perfect for our, 7yr. 5yr. And 3yr. old. They offer “family” bathrooms which includes the shower and toilet all in one restroom. They did not have hand soap in either of the family bathrooms, which we had brought our own since we were camping.. so that wasn’t an issue for us, but just a heads up for when camping at this location.

We have camped here for the last few years and always have a great time. It's just a small drive to anything you need but when you're tucked up in the campground it's quiet and feels more remote. It's been a good experience the last couple of years but this year's hosts brought a personal touch that was nice! Krissy loved hearing all of our stories and contributing hers! She drove around each night with her sweet pup in the cart to distribute a little treat for each kid.

It was a perfect getaway close to home. Just from the start you know it will be a great stay after you chat with amazing hosts Krissy and Chris. They helped us picked great spot close to playground and told us about things to do around. Kristy and Chris make you feel like home and check on with everyone if everything is going well. The campground is very clean and organized. Sites are big enough to have some privacy. There is a gate with a code to get in, so you feel safe there will be no random cars driving around. It is a perfect spot for family getaway but it's also quiet enough if you are looking for a more solitude experience. We will definitely be back.

Loved the two set of hosts presents. They were nice and welcoming. The whole place was clean, quiet, neat The only negative I gave is the water pressure sucked in the showers I tried most of them and all had a bit of water coming out not good for long hair

Sweet spot, great hosts, solid bathrooms. 2 gals and their dog enjoyed site 15 tent camping. Fireflies and a good greenwashing on the trial and by the lake were just what the doctor ordered. Thai place 10 mins away was great too, and plenty of stores and places to eat nearby if not prepared for camp cooking!
