In August 2017 I visited the James Kipp area to do some dark-skies research. The James Kipp area is in one of the darkest pockets of the continental US. These are skies that are unblemished by ANY light pollution from artificial sources. Most users of the camp site are in the area to hunt and fish, and I hear the sport is exceptional. Most have probably also noticed that at night, after the sun has set, the stars are beautiful. The below four shots are from my single night here on 8/28/2017. Note the utter lack of any visible artificial lights spoiling the horizons. I've done extensive travel to dark sites in the lower 48, including state and national parks, state and national forests, and other protected recreation areas. James Kipp is in the top tier of darkest skies in the US. If you visit here, make sure to appreciate the nighttime skies!

Beautifully treed sites right near the river. Water was off as they were upgrading. Paths to river could be cleared better.
