Jarvis Bay
Overview
Jarvis Bay Provincial Park has been a beloved destination for Alberta travelers for decades, offering a peaceful camping experience set within a lush forest of poplar and spruce. Located on the eastern shores of one of the province's most popular lakes, this park provides a quiet, natural alternative to the bustling town center nearby. It is well-known for its scenic cliffside views and its ability to provide a true nature-focused getaway while remaining remarkably close to modern conveniences and urban recreation.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just a short drive from the vibrant town of Sylvan Lake, the park sits atop high banks overlooking the water. The surrounding mature mixedwood forest provides excellent shade and privacy for many of the campsites, creating a secluded atmosphere. While there is no direct beach access from the park's cliffs, the elevated position offers some of the best sunset vantage points in the region, looking directly across the expansive lake toward the western horizon.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is well-equipped for RVers, featuring nearly 200 sites with many offering 30-amp electrical hookups to accommodate a variety of rig sizes. Visitors have access to clean, well-maintained facilities, including flush toilets and hot showers, which add a layer of comfort to the rustic forest setting. For convenience, a large sanitary dump station and water filling stations are available on-site. The park also maintains several kilometers of hiking trails that wind through the woods, along with multiple playgrounds for families.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While the park itself is a quiet sanctuary, the Sylvan Lake waterfront is only five minutes away by car. Here, travelers can enjoy a sprawling sandy public beach, boat rentals, and the famous Aqua Splash park. For those who enjoy sports, there are several championship golf courses within a ten-minute drive. The town also offers a vibrant lakeside promenade filled with local breweries, ice cream shops, and dining options that are perfect for an afternoon excursion.
Who This Park Is Best For
Jarvis Bay is an excellent choice for families and couples who prefer a wooded, natural environment over a high-density commercial resort. It is perfectly suited for RVers who want a peaceful home base while exploring the recreational opportunities of Central Alberta. If you value quiet evenings by the campfire and well-shaded campsites while staying close to lake activities, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

Close enough to town to be convenient, far enough to be peaceful. The lakefront is very rocky and there are signs telling you not to go down, unstable and dangerous. Worth it if your able bodied enough to climb down in one of the few accessible spots.

I came here as a solo camper and am doing car camping. It has a very spacious campsite, is very family-friendly, and is very quiet. They have plenty of free showers, plenty of firewood, and plenty of water sources nearby. The toilet is flushable, which is a bonus. I definitely will come back here again.

A little pricey ($53, including booking fee), but very nice site. Campsite was big, had power, washrooms with running water and drinkingwater tap nearby, showers at main entrance, and a beautiful pathway system that leads just off the northeast shore of Sylvain Lake.

We had another great camping night at Jarvis Campground! 🏕️ The washrooms are always clean, the place is peaceful, and quiet time starts at 11 PM. The atmosphere is full of good vibes, and we’ve been camping here since 2022—it’s definitely one of our go-to spots. Highly recommend!

Clean facility. Free Hot showers. Clean washrooms. Drinking water throughout. Playground for kids. Would definitely recommend a stay. No easy access to lake due to cliffs. Easier to drive to Sylvan lake beach 5 minutes away.
