Jasper/Honeymoon Lake

Overview

Honeymoon Lake Campground offers a quintessential Rocky Mountain experience within the heart of Jasper National Park. This tranquil spot is nestled along the shores of its namesake lake, providing a serene escape from the busier central hubs. Visitors are treated to stunning reflections of the surrounding peaks on the water's glass-like surface, creating an environment defined by stillness and natural beauty. It is the perfect place to disconnect and immerse yourself in the rugged landscape of Alberta.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 50 kilometers south of the Jasper townsite, the park is located directly along the world-famous Icefields Parkway. The campground is bordered by the dramatic Endless Chain Ridge, offering towering limestone views that dominate the eastern horizon. Its position near the Sunwapta River means guests are surrounded by the sights and sounds of the high subalpine forest, making it a prime location for those traveling between Jasper and Banff.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a rustic, dry-camping facility that prioritizes a primitive connection to the wilderness. The park features 35 unserviced sites, making it most suitable for smaller RVs. Key features include:

  • Access to a small boat launch for non-motorized craft like canoes and kayaks.
  • Traditional fire pits and picnic tables at every site for quiet evening relaxation.
  • Basic facilities including pit toilets and bear-proof food storage lockers.

Please note that there are no power or water hookups available, ensuring guests can enjoy a true off-grid experience amidst nature.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find themselves conveniently located near some of Jasper's most iconic landmarks. The powerful Sunwapta Falls is just a short drive away, offering spectacular views of rushing water carving through ancient rock. Further north, guests can explore Athabasca Falls or embark on numerous hiking trails that wind through the valley. The lake itself is ideal for paddling and fishing, providing a quiet alternative to the more crowded lakes found near the main townsite.

Who This Park Is Best For

Honeymoon Lake is ideal for travelers who prefer a quiet, off-the-grid atmosphere over modern resort amenities. Because of the site sizes and narrow access roads, it is best suited for small RVs, campervans, and tent trailers. It appeals most to nature photographers, birdwatchers, and couples looking for a secluded basecamp. If your travel style involves swapping Wi-Fi for starlit skies and mountain silence, this park provides the perfect backdrop for your Jasper adventure.

Hidden gem in Jasper National Park, camp sites are quite private and has a beautiful lake. Stayed three nights with an RV and loved it. Fills up quickly after 17.00 so be sure to come earlier to claim a good spot!

This is a campground where you are surrounded by nature. It has fresh water, clean dining shelters, clean dry toilets and wood for the fire pits. Campsites 1-20 are very private and 30-34 have a lake view. As it was our first time at self checkin camping ground, park Canada staff helped us out with filling in the forms. Was only 26 CAD for one night.

We didn't camp there but we stopped for a short afternoon break to use day use area. The lake is calm and beautiful. People was swimming there. A potable water reservoir was available and potholes toilets and a few picnic tables. Parking place is not big.
