As a Parks Canada facility, it provides a rustic wilderness setting that prioritizes a deep connection with nature over modern luxuries. This campground is celebrated for its tranquil atmosphere, allowing visitors to fall asleep to the gentle sounds of the river flowing nearby while surrounded by towering peaks. It is a place where the landscape takes center stage, offering a true back-to-basics camping experience.
Location & Surroundings
Situated approximately thirteen kilometers east of the Jasper townsite, the park is tucked along the banks of the Snaring River. The drive along Snaring Road is known for frequent wildlife sightings, including elk and bears. The campground is nestled in a thick forest of pine and spruce, offering a secluded feel while remaining accessible to the Yellowhead Highway. This strategic location provides a perfect balance between remote solitude and proximity to the essential services found in the nearby town.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a dry camping destination, meaning there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups available for RVs. The park provides essential amenities such as pit toilets, picnic tables, and metal fire pits at each site. For safety in bear country, communal food lockers are provided for those who need them. Water is typically available via hand pumps, and the sites are designed to accommodate smaller to medium-sized RVs and trailers in a wooded, private layout.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Visitors are perfectly positioned to explore the Jasper townsite, which features local dining and boutique shopping. Outdoor enthusiasts can head to nearby Maligne Canyon for incredible geological views or take a short drive to Pyramid Lake for paddling and photography. The Snaring River itself is a popular spot for fly fishing and birdwatching. For those looking for adventure, several trailheads are within easy reach, offering routes that wind through the valley floor.
Who This Park Is Best For
This location is ideal for self-contained RVers who prefer solitude and natural beauty over resort-style amenities. It caters to travelers seeking a quiet escape and those who enjoy the traditional camping culture of national parks. If you value a wilderness-first approach and want to stay away from the more crowded commercial hubs, Snaring River provides the perfect, peaceful backdrop for your Jasper adventure while keeping you close to the park’s main highlights.

It was absolutely beautiful. Nice sized lots and a quick path to the Snaring River. Close to beautiful bike trails. Would 100% recommend.

Hard to find a spot since the Jasper fires have made less campsites available in the area. Since 2020 the cost has tripled and that was with the discount this year at some campgrounds in 2025. Next year the price will go up and there is only pit toilets a tap near the sign in kiosk and free fire wood.

Clean campsites. There is a cooking area and lockers for your food if you are in a tent. Park staff are attentive and helpful with any questions you may have.

Had a great time camping at this spot. The peaceful sound of birds in the morning felt like a natural alarm clock, and the gentle river noise throughout the day added to the relaxing vibe. It’s a perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. The only downside was the occasional train passing by — you can hear it, but it’s not too bad and didn’t ruin the experience. Just a heads-up: there’s no cell service and no power on-site, so be sure to bring a power station. Overall, it’s a beautiful and quiet campground, great for disconnecting and recharging.

We drove in without a booking and luckily there was a free spot (the next day it was full), so after choosing our spot we parked up and walked back down to the entrance and self registered, payed $16.75 for the 25' RV site in cash. Toilets were nearby and there is a short walk to the river with nice views of the mountains. Unserviced sites and no showers. Fairly private spots with picnic tables. Stayed here during smoke from wildfires.
