The friendly and helpful hosts help make Rudds Creek a great experience. Being late in the season, we were able to secure reservations for five nights, moving after the first two nights. Both sites were waterfront, and plenty long enough for our 45’ motorhome and toad. The dump station was well located and accessible entering and exiting the Park.

Rudd’s Creek Campground – Boydton, VA My husband and I decided to take our daughter(18) camping over Columbus Day weekend for two nights, and we chose Rudd’s Creek Campground in Virginia. As first-time visitors from Florida, we didn’t know what to expect—but we were pleasantly surprised. The campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and even though there was a government shutdown at the time, there were still attendants at the entrance. One of them, Marian, greeted us with a warm smile and went above and beyond to help us switch to a campsite right on the lake, site 10. It even had a little hidden footpath through the woods—absolutely beautiful and peaceful. She was truly a gem and made us feel welcome right from the start. The facilities were one of the best parts of our stay. The campground offers flushing toilets, hot showers, and electric lights along the main roads—a big plus when camping with kids. Each campsite also comes with a fire ring and picnic table, and there are more primitive restrooms with pit toilets available around the grounds. The only downside was the traffic noise from the nearby highway at the entrance, which was noticeable, especially at night. If you’re a light sleeper, it’s something to keep in mind. We did have a challenging first night due to a large, inconsiderate group of illegal aliens camping nearby. Their children were extremely loud well past quiet hours, even riding bikes and shining flashlights at tents. Despite my husband asking them to quiet down around 1 a.m., there was no change. We had to call the non-emergency police line around 2 a.m., and thankfully, the Park Rangers followed up the next morning and addressed the issue with the family. We appreciated their professionalism and the fact that they also checked in with us afterward. The second night was much better—rain helped keep things quiet, and that group packed up and left early the next morning. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend Rudd’s Creek Campground for families or couples. It felt safe, clean, and well-managed, and the lakefront sites are especially gorgeous. I even felt comfortable walking alone to the restroom early in the morning, which says a lot about the environment. We’ll certainly keep this spot in mind for future trips!

Would be nice to go camping and not have someone’s political views shoved in our faces the whole weekend . The whole point of camping is to get away from everything but Noooo can’t do that when I gotta look at it while camping too. Keep your views to yourself and let family’s camp in peace

Great campground managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at the John H. Kerr Reservoir and Dam. Located on Buggs Island Lake. Friendly staff suggested purchasing either the USACE or American the Beautiful pass to save a little money when reserving. Shaded rustic sites with many bordering little cove areas. We take nature walks, boat, kayak or make our own little water flotilla. Decent bathhouses. Sites have a fire ring/ grill grate, electricity and water (some sites are too near the lake to have electricity or water). Dump station near the entrance. Can’t beat the price --- it’s just hard to get a reservation.

Nice campground with big spots and lots of tree on the water. Simple necessities, nothing fancy.

We have a really nice site that overlooks the water. Cell service is great. $28 a night. Staff was super nice and the bathhouse is clean.

Our first visit😊 Staff was informative and pleasant to us with ALL our questions. Look forward to returning during warm season activities. The lake was so beautiful with the Fall colors. Camp sites have plenty of space between most of them on large loop. Many of them have some type of lake access, depending on your agility.
