We camped at Johnson Sauk Trail State Recreation Area during the Hennepin 100 weekend, and it was the perfect base for the adventure. I was pacing the final quarter of the race for a friend, and the campground’s proximity to the aid station made logistics super easy—just a few minutes away! We tent camped and loved the location. Our site was surrounded by tall, peaceful trees that gave it a cozy, secluded feel. We had plenty of space to set up hammocks all around, which made it feel like our own little forest retreat. The bonfire pit was a bit on the small side, and we wished we could’ve parked closer to the site, but those were minor trade-offs for such a beautiful setting. The trails were a highlight—perfect for walking my dog and soaking in the scenery. Overall, it was a great experience and a weekend full of good memories. Would definitely return

This is our "Go To" place whenever visiting our daughter in nearby Kewanee. ADA sites are paved. Others are gravel. We haven't had any issues leveling our Class A in the sites we have chosen. Restrooms have always been clean. Lots of elbow room. Very quiet. A nice place to relax.

Beautiful photographic place. Great to drive through. Great to walk through. Great place to fish. Plenty of areas to take photos. There's a lot of birds 🐦 🐦‍⬛ , deer🦌 and other wildlife to see or hear. Right now it's sad there. The drought has lowered the lake and it's getting smaller and the streams are dried up. What a sad thing to see and witness

Camped over Labor Day weekend and had a blast. Plenty of shade. Near the water for fishing/kayaking. Electric plug in for standard TypeA/B plugs and eletric plug in for 30amp 120 volt RV's available.

This is a very nice Campground. It's very clean and well-maintained. Great trails to walk. The reason I give it four stars is because of the condition of the lake. It is silted in and has poor water clarity. We took a boat on it a couple of years ago not knowing how shallow it was. The deepest spot we found was 4 ft. Our 16' bass boat got stuck a couple of times. It would be a good idea if they posted a warning of some kind. This past weekend we stayed in our camper and went down to the lake to fish and there was a bass boat trying to load onto their trailer they got stuck at the ramp. This lake is good for kayaking though. We ate at the restaurant a few years ago and it was good.
