Overview

Johnstone Creek Provincial Park offers a tranquil escape within the Southern Interior of British Columbia. This forested sanctuary is known for its mature Douglas fir and ponderosa pine trees, providing a cool canopy for travelers along the Crowsnest Highway. Unlike busy commercial resorts, this park emphasizes a return to nature, offering a quiet atmosphere where the sound of the creek serves as the primary soundtrack for your stay.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just off Highway 3 near Westbridge, the park sits at an elevation that offers a refreshing break from the heat of the valley. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and rock outcrops, creating a diverse habitat for local wildlife. The namesake Johnstone Creek winds through the area, eventually leading to a modest but scenic waterfall accessible via a short stroll. The surrounding terrain is a blend of open forest and grassy meadows.

The facilities at this park are simple and well-maintained. The park provides unserviced campsites designed for those who enjoy the simplicity of dry camping. Each site features a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings. While there are no hookups, the park offers vault toilets and hand-pumped water stations. The layout is relatively compact, making it easy to navigate for most standard-sized rigs seeking a natural forest setting.

This is a first come first serve only campground and does not accept reservations. This is what lost the 1 star for me. Comming from Vancouver the distance is too far for me to risk a site not being open when I get there. That said this is a nice little camprground. We drove through on our way to Kettle River Rec Area (which does accept reservations). The sites were flat and well spaced out. The sites had fire pits. I did not check out the toilets but you can tell they are pit. I have only found 1 pit toilet that I consider clean and usable, it's in yoho, and I will not reveal it's location due to I don't want it ruined. Overall I would camp here.

$18 for a place to sleep is pretty steep in my opinion. very buggy toilet, but other than that it seems fine. flat sites with a fire pit and table. i would recommend finding another place to camp if you are passing through

Nice and quiet. Just opened but weather was amazing. Almost no one around and sound of creek was nice, didn’t even hear highway (we were at site 2)

The campground was very casual, good spot for a night. The walk to the falls was enjoyable.

Great little spot to stay, if you like to hang out in the camp site. There is a trail to hike, but it is small and doesnt take long to complete. You can cross the fence at some points so perhaps you could hike down there as well? 🤷‍♀️ The views at the benches are beautiful though. Worth the night that we spent there, $18 a night. The back campsites are more private than the first couple, but they are also closer to the highway. If we were in the area and needed a spot to stay a night I would go back here.
