Jubilee Park Campground

Overview

Jubilee Park Campground, situated on the scenic shores of Wizard Lake, serves as a premier destination for those exploring the Leduc County region. This well-maintained park balances the rustic charm of the Alberta parkland with the comforts modern travelers expect. Whether you are stopping for a weekend or planning an extended summer stay, the park offers a tranquil lakeside environment that invites relaxation and outdoor recreation. It is a place where the sounds of the forest and the water create a peaceful backdrop for your RV adventures.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a short drive from the town of Calmar, AB, the park is nestled within a lush landscape of native aspen and poplar trees. The campground is positioned on the south side of Wizard Lake, providing direct access to one of the region’s most popular bodies of water. The surrounding area is characterized by rolling hills and agricultural vistas, offering a true sense of escape while remaining conveniently close to major centers like Leduc and Edmonton. The secluded campsites provide a significant amount of privacy compared to more urban RV parks.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is equipped with several utility-serviced sites, including options for power and water hookups to accommodate various RV sizes. Families will appreciate the expansive day-use area, which features a modern playground and a refreshing spray park for younger visitors. The facility also provides clean washrooms, coin-operated showers, and a convenient boat launch for those looking to hit the water. For land-based activities, guests can enjoy well-maintained hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forest, perfect for morning strolls or evening birdwatching.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water sports are the primary draw here, with Wizard Lake being a favorite spot for boating, water-skiing, and fishing. Anglers often visit in search of northern pike and yellow perch. Beyond the water, the nearby town of Calmar offers local dining and small-town charm. If you are looking for a day trip, the University of Alberta Botanic Garden is a short drive away, featuring stunning floral displays and themed gardens. For those needing a touch of the city, the diverse shopping and entertainment options of Leduc are within easy reach.

Who This Park Is Best For

Jubilee Park is an ideal choice for family-oriented RVers who prioritize kid-friendly activities like swimming and playgrounds. It also appeals to boating enthusiasts who want quick access to a boat launch and lakefront recreation. If you prefer a natural, forested setting over a concrete parking lot, this park’s leafy canopy will suit your travel style. It is perfect for those seeking a home base that feels remote but remains close enough to the city for a quick supply run or a flight out of the nearby airport.

I recently discovered this lake and it is truly breathtaking. I have had the pleasure of visiting multiple times this season. I highly recommend arriving early to secure the best spot. The concessions stand is conveniently located just a minute's walk from the picnic area. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous serving size of the regular single ice cream, which features three scoops and is well worth the six-dollar price point. The portions of their hot foods are fair and reasonably priced, although I do hope they consider increasing the serving sizes in the future. The staff are also notably friendly. Overall, my experience was thoroughly enjoyable.

We are writing to express our deep disappointment regarding the recent changes at Wizard Lake – Jubilee Park Campground following the change in ownership. Our family has been coming to this campground for years, typically three times per season. On our first visit this year, we were shocked to discover the change in ownership—something that was not communicated ahead of time. The experience we had come to know and love has changed drastically, and unfortunately, not for the better. One of the biggest losses is James and the candy shop, which was always a highlight for our children. It was more than just a store—it added magic and excitement to our camping experience. Now, not only is it closed to the public, but the available food options are overpriced and no longer family-friendly. What used to be an affordable treat for the whole family has become unaffordable, stripping away a huge part of what made this campground special. You used to be able to grab a meal for the whole family or even breakfast, and now it is barely even open. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt different. There was a noticeable lack of care and community. Garbage cans in the day-use area are now gone, resulting in increased littering and even people consuming alcohol openly on the beaches and surrounding areas. There are no longer any visible patrollers (Leduc county officers) ensuring safety or rule enforcement in the campground or beach area. It is no longer a family destination, and full of party goers, and people screaming and swearing. To make matters worse, during our stay, someone’s trailer exploded—an extremely alarming and dangerous incident. It raised major concerns about overall safety and the absence of proper supervision or emergency response. Additionally, during the Leduc County celebration on July 12, the bathrooms were out of service for both the campground and day-use area. The sewage system was backed up for our entire five-day stay, which created unsanitary and unpleasant conditions for all guests. We strongly believe that the absence of Leduc County’s involvement is a major loss. The previous oversight and care made Jubilee Park a safe, clean, and welcoming place for families. We hope these concerns are taken seriously and that steps will be taken to restore the charm and standards that once made this campground a beloved destination for so many. EDIT: came back 3 weeks later for a trip already booked at the beginning of the season and the washrooms are still closed by the beach. The food is almost triple the price of what it used to be at the concession. Disappointing again.

EDIT SPRING/SUMMER 2025 The Hat Campground at Wizard Lake (formally known as Jubilee Park Campground) is under new management, and still owned by Leduc county. There have been some changes to the campground, you are unable to rent any recreational water sport equipment. There is no longer a store front that give you access to essentials, there is still a concession stand, however, the prices have significantly increased. There are no longer wildlife rangers or Leduc county personnel monitoring the campground. This is a significant safety concern with significant partying now going on at the campground. Hopefully new management is able to work out some changes & have staff on site to ensure the safety of campers. Summer 2024 What a gem! We are new to camping & were able to enjoy 3 different camping trips out at Jubilee park campground this summer. Each trip was amazing, the kids loved it & we had so much fun! Each site we booked at was treed in & had great space of our tent trailer & for the kids to play. The free showers & flush toilets were great & we utilized them daily after being in the lake. The basketball court was well loved by our boys. The dock area by the boat launch was great for fishing (the kids caught a small fish for the first time off the dock!) The beach area & new playground were great, the beach is a little rocky so the kids wear water shoes. Be mindful that there is no lifeguard on duty & there is a significant drop out in the swimming area. In speaking with a very kind Park officer, she was ensuring families knew this & encouraged water safety for kids. It seems there have been a couple near drowning incidents that she was understandably a little shaken up about. The store was wonderful, lots of options for food if you did not want to cook, the ice cream was wonderful on a hot day, lots of options & very reasonably priced. Our kids of course loved all the candy options as well. All of the teens running the store along with a very kind couple were amazing! So kind & personable. Park officers & LC staff were always kind to talk to and genuinely seemed like they enjoyed being there. We rented paddle boards as well which was so much fun! They were $25.00 each for 1.5 hours. We will absolutely be back next summer & can't wait to make more memories with our families! Thank you for a wonderful summer! Ps. the sunsets here are gorgeous!

I highly recommend this campground. We always enjoy our stay here with family and friends. Very close to Edmonton and the lake, the campsites annd the washrooms are very well maintained and clean. The staff are friendly & very honest. I lost my wallet and I called them the next day to asked them if they had found my wallet, the owner asked all staffs to look around, the staffs were very helpful and they called me back after an hour to let me know that they found my wallet!
