Kaibab/White Horse Lake
Overview
White Horse Lake Campground, managed within the Kaibab National Forest, offers a serene escape into high-country pine forests. Located near Williams, Arizona, this destination is centered around a picturesque 90-acre lake that serves as a focal point for recreation. It provides a classic camping experience where nature takes center stage, away from the hustle of developed urban resorts. Visitors come here to enjoy the cooler temperatures provided by the 7,000-foot elevation and the quiet atmosphere of the dense ponderosa pines.
Location & Surroundings
The park is nestled deep within the Kaibab National Forest, approximately 19 miles south of the city of Williams. The drive involves traversing gravel forest roads, which adds to the secluded and peaceful feel of the area. Surrounding the campground are thick stands of timber and diverse wildlife, including elk and various migratory bird species. The scenic lake views and proximity to the rim of Sycamore Canyon make it a premier spot for those seeking high-desert mountain beauty and forest tranquility.
Amenities & Park Features
As a forest service site, the park focuses on natural utility rather than modern luxury. It offers dry camping sites without electricity or water hookups, making it ideal for self-contained RVs. On-site facilities include vault toilets and potable water stations distributed throughout the various loops. Each site is typically equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. The park also features a boat ramp, though only oars or electric motors are permitted to maintain the quiet, natural environment of the lake.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the primary draw for many visitors, with the lake frequently stocked with rainbow trout during the season. Hikers can explore the nearby Sycamore Rim Trail, which offers breathtaking overlooks of the surrounding wilderness. For a day trip, the historic town of Williams and the Grand Canyon Railway are just a short drive away. Additionally, Sycamore Point provides a stunning vantage point often compared to the Grand Canyon, located just a few miles from the main campground loops.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best for travelers seeking a rustic forest experience rather than a commercial RV resort. It is perfect for those who enjoy boondocking with the added convenience of a designated pad and basic facilities. Because there are no hookups, it is ideal for self-sufficient RVers who want to disconnect from technology and reconnect with the outdoors. Families looking for a quiet fishing retreat or hikers exploring Northern Arizona will find this location particularly rewarding.

White horse Lake campground is an excellent dry camping campground. Unfortunately the road going into it is ridiculously rough. They said that there was a greater out there in May but they did very little work and it shows. We did find a little smoother way in than the one that comes up on Google maps which was a relief but still there's no need for that much washboard when all they have to do is grade it down. Put the campground is fantastic and the camp hosts are incredible.... We had a spot right on the lake and truly enjoyed ourselves.

We really loved our time at this amazing campground. The sites are clean and spacious. The bathrooms are very clean. The host I have to do a big shout out they were so amazing . We were at site 55c. They stopped took time to talk to our kids and even lend him a fishing pole in which made his day. He caught a catfish and a trout Thank you for the memories that our boys will forever remembers

Beautiful lake campground with no electricity or water hookup. If you bring a boat. only trolling motor allowed. No motor boats of any kind. You have a long ride down a dirt road to get here. Doable but even with a travel trailer.

This place is packed with people, ATVs, and cars. Feels like you’re still in the city with trees and a lake around. Bunch of noise during the day from all the cars, ATVs and golf carts. If you have the campsite by the bathroom, you’ll always have an audience. The campsites are very close together. The campsite and bathrooms are clean and they have TP in there so that’s the only good thing I noticed. There’s also no shade near the lake so if you go fishing, its hot and you’re bald and forget your hat, you’ll get your head sunburned. Or if you do have hair, you’ll be sweating your butt off while trying to catch something, which most likely will be seaweed because the fish there like to jump up and tease but won’t bite the worm on your fishing hook; my 11 yr old concluded this about the fish.
