Kanopolis Lake - COE/Venango Area

Kanopolis Lake is a reservoir located in Ellsworth County, Kansas. It is the largest lake in the state and is located in the Smoky Hills region of the state. The lake was created in 1948 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Kanopolis Project, which was designed to provide flood control, recreation, and water supply for the area. The lake is located in the Coe-Venango area of Marquette, Kansas, and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, camping, and other outdoor activities. The lake is also home to a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, white-tailed deer, and wild turkeys.
