Kansas State Fair RV Park

Overview

The Kansas State Fair RV Park provides a functional and reliable base for travelers exploring central Kansas. Situated on the historic Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, this facility is generally open year-round, excluding specific event dates like the annual fair in September. It offers a straightforward experience with a primary focus on convenience and accessibility. Whether you are attending a rally or simply passing through the Sunflower State, the park provides a well-organized environment with plenty of space for larger vehicles.

Location & Surroundings

Located within the city limits of Hutchinson, the park enjoys a prime position near major transit routes like Highway 61 and US-50. The surrounding area is defined by the expansive fairground infrastructure, providing a sense of openness despite the central urban setting. Guests are just minutes away from local shopping, dining, and essential services, making it easy to restock supplies. The environment is generally quiet outside of event windows, offering a peaceful mid-trip retreat for weary road travelers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped to handle modern RVers, offering numerous full-hookup sites that include water, sewer, and both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Many of these sites are designed as spacious pull-throughs, which is a significant advantage for those driving larger motorhomes or towing long trailers. The park includes the following features:

  • Water and sewer connections at most sites
  • Modern 30 and 50-amp electrical service
  • On-site well-maintained restroom complexes and shower houses
  • Access to laundry facilities for extended stays

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Staying here puts you at the doorstep of some of the state's most famous landmarks. The Cosmosphere, an internationally recognized space museum and STEM center, is located just a short drive away. Equally impressive is Strataca, a unique underground salt museum located 650 feet below the surface. Other nearby activities include:

  • Walking the trails at the Dillon Nature Center
  • Exploring the dunes at Sand Hills State Park
  • Dining at authentic Kansas bakeries and diners

These attractions make it easy to fill an afternoon without traveling far from your campsite.

My one complaint was with Midway Cards. I had the boys and three separate cards. They had just enough to do one more ride between the three cards. When they got up there they said couldnt split them between three cards. They needed the full ride amount on one card. If that's the case just go back to the tickets. Or you know, one ticket per ride. We really don't need to make it an algebra problem to get on a ride.

We haven't been in awhile, and we had a great time. Might sound silly, but loved the fair food. Funnel cakes, fried green tomatoes, to the fried jalapeño twinkie. Love some fair food

The state fair was fun but the rides couldn't be operational due to a storm but overall plenty of games and the fair even has a petting zoo.

This was my first time at the State Fair and it was so much fun! Lots to see and tons of awesome people! SO MANY food options!! I've never seen a sculpture made of butter before! Giant pumpkins and beautiful art! Cows and llamas! The list goes on and on! I'll absolutely be back!
