Overview
Situated on the expansive waters of the John H. Kerr Reservoir, Kerr Lake Henderson Point offers a serene getaway for those seeking a true connection with nature. As one of the most popular state recreation areas in North Carolina, this park provides a natural lakeside setting that feels worlds away from the city. The park sits on a scenic peninsula, providing campers with stunning views of the 50,000-acre lake and easy access to diverse outdoor activities throughout the year.
Location & Surroundings
Located in the northern part of Henderson, NC, right near the Virginia border, Henderson Point is defined by its rolling wooded terrain and extensive shoreline. The area is surrounded by lush forests that provide ample shade for RV sites. Being part of a massive reservoir system, the surrounding landscape is a network of coves and points, making it a premier destination for water-based recreation in the Piedmont region of the state.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is well-equipped for RV travelers who prefer a rustic yet comfortable experience. It features water and electric hookups at many sites, though visitors should utilize the central dump station for waste management. Key facilities include multiple boat ramps, modern bathhouses with hot showers, and a designated swimming beach. Families often enjoy the spacious picnic areas and community fire rings, which are perfect for evening gatherings after a long day on the lake.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw here is the water, where world-class fishing for striped bass and crappie keeps anglers busy year-round. Beyond the docks, visitors can explore local hiking trails or visit the nearby city of Henderson for historical sites and essential dining. The John H. Kerr Dam is a short drive away, offering impressive views and educational opportunities about the region's hydro-electric history and the engineering that created this massive body of water.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want immediate access to the water. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a traditional camping experience without the noise or crowds of high-density private resorts. If you value peaceful waterfront views and a slower pace of life, Henderson Point provides the perfect backdrop for a restorative RV vacation in a lush North Carolina setting.

Absolutely the WORST experience at any NC campgrounds. Check in is 3 pm. We arrived at 3:05pm. Drove to site 41 which was reserved in advance. There was a truck with a boat trailer parked in our site. No one was around to ask if they knew who it belonged to. We took photos of the truck and boat trailer to show to the workers at the front gate. When we showed them, Miss Vicki called a park ranger. We waited at the gate for 30 minutes and no ranger showed up. We asked for a refund for our site since we could not access it. We were denied and given the number for the main office at Satter Point. When I called the office on the way home, I was told no refund would be given because it was after our check in time! I asked to speak to someone who was able to issue a refund because this was not of our doing. Had the Rangers who are employed by the state to enforce the rules done their job, no one would have been in a reserved site without proper tags on the vehicle. We were told that the truck had been out of our site an hour after we left to return home. They claimed it was gone prior to us leaving the campground, but that was false information given to cover for their mistakes. We will be proactively pushing to get a full refund. I would never recommend this site as they do not seem to have anyone willing to ensure the rules are followed to allow for all to enjoy this campground.

Very nice secluded camping areas. Lots of waterfront camping sites.
