Kerr Lake/Kimball Point
Overview
Kimball Point is a serene section of the expansive Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, located along the North Carolina and Virginia border. Known for its lush forests and easy access to the water, this park offers a peaceful retreat for those looking to disconnect. Unlike bustling commercial resorts, it provides a quiet atmosphere where the sound of the wind through the pines and the gentle lap of the lake against the shore define the experience.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Norlina, NC, the park sits on the shores of one of the largest reservoirs in the Southeast. The landscape is dominated by mature hardwood trees and the massive 50,000-acre lake. Its position on a peninsula provides many sites with views of the water, making it a prime location for those who appreciate natural beauty and geographical seclusion without being too far from local conveniences.
Amenities & Park Features
The park caters well to RVers with electric and water hookups at many of its campsites. While full sewer hookups aren't available at individual sites, a convenient dump station is located on-site. Guests have access to well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers and toilets. Other features include:
- Designated swimming beaches for family fun.
- Boat ramps for easy lake access.
- Lakeside picnic areas and playgrounds.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water sports are the main draw here, with boating and fishing being the top activities for visitors. The lake is famous for its striped bass and catfish. If you want to explore further, the nearby Satterwhite Point offers additional recreational facilities and a marina. For a bit of local history, the town of Henderson is a short drive away, providing shopping, dining, and a glimpse into the region's heritage.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and anglers who prefer a rustic camping environment over a resort-style stay. It is perfectly suited for families looking for an affordable lakeside vacation where the focus is on outdoor activities. Because of its quiet nature, it is also a fantastic spot for long-term travelers needing a restful break while journeying through the Mid-Atlantic region.

Arrived after dark, not a good idea for someone new at backing up a camper. But found a helpful neighbor who did it for me, thanking him so much! Woke up in the morning to an absolutely gorgeous Campground. This was just a quick overnight stay as I was traveling south. But I considered staying an extra night because it was so beautiful. Since my site was rented that evening I moved on. But I would highly recommend staying here for at least a few days. I had water and electric, they are dog friendly, had nice, clean, level, area for camper, picnic table and campfire. Oh, and a pole for hanging a lantern. Loads and loads of trees, space between neighbors was nice too.

Beautiful camping area, bring a fishing pole, kayak. We'll kept area, clean bathrooms and shower house and unbelievable beautiful scenery. Research the area for the best camp site. Some are on a slope and close to other campers while other sites have more space and flat ground. Every site has a picnic table, fire pit and a water faucet near every site. Staff is wonderful.

A very nice place to camp or take your RV. The lakeside camping areas are really outstanding and very clean. The view of the lake is magnificent. I highly recommend this camping area.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kerr Lake State Rec - Nutbush Area 1! The pictures on the site weren't accurate to the site itself because there was alot more beach in the picture but we enjoyed ourselves. The Park Rangers are very present. The campground isn't huge, and there are some sites right on the water. The bathhouse is what it is. Nothing great - hot water and a place to wash off. The lake was beautiful. There is a park over in another section of the campground but not in Area 1. I think it was Area 3.

Henderson Point Campground. Amazing campground. Very peaceful. Stayed in the beginning of May. Bring a long hose, or bring 3. Water connections around site 40 are very far from the RV parking area. Beautiful beautiful beautiful!
