Kettle Creek
Overview
Kettle Creek State Park offers a peaceful retreat nestled deep within the Pennsylvania Wilds. Surrounded by the majestic mountains of Clinton County, this park is centered around a 167-acre reservoir and the tranquil waters of Kettle Creek itself. It is a destination where the sounds of nature replace the hum of the city, providing RV travelers with a genuine wilderness experience that feels both secluded and inviting.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Renovo, PA, the park is located in a narrow valley carved by the creek over thousands of years. The surrounding landscape consists of thousands of acres of state forest land, making it an ideal base for exploring the rugged terrain of north-central Pennsylvania. The Alvin R. Bush Dam serves as a focal point, creating a scenic backdrop for the park’s various recreation areas and campsites.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features two distinct camping areas. The Lower Campground is particularly popular with RVers as it offers several electric hookups and easy access to the creek. Park facilities include:
- Modern restrooms and warm showers
- A sanitary dump station for RV convenience
- Spacious picnic areas and playgrounds
While the sites maintain a rustic charm, they are well-maintained and provide a level of comfort that allows guests to focus on the great outdoors without sacrificing basic necessities.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with trout fishing being a major highlight for many visitors. The reservoir is perfect for kayaking or electric-motored boats, while the sandy swimming beach offers a cool respite during the summer months. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the nearby Donut Hole Trail provides miles of challenging terrain for hikers seeking to immerse themselves in the dense forest canopy and spot local wildlife like elk.
Who This Park Is Best For
Kettle Creek is best suited for nature lovers and those who prefer a traditional camping atmosphere over a high-traffic resort. It is a fantastic choice for fishing enthusiasts and families who want to unplug and enjoy simple pleasures like stargazing or birdwatching. If your travel style involves quiet evenings by a campfire and waking up to the sounds of a rushing stream, this state park is a perfect fit for your RV journey.

My family’s love of camping started here in 2012. At site #52 in the upper campground. Since then we’ve been to numerous other places as well but every few years we return to Kettle Creek. It’s definitely a favorite! We love the remoteness and peace of the upper campground. There’s kayaking, no end to hiking, disc golf, fishing, a lookout on the top of the mountain… a wonderful place to go soak in the beauty of God’s creation and enjoy time with family! 🏕️🏕️🏕️

Nice lake, plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, kayak rentals via phone. I get a couple bars of service here though it can be spotty through Xfinity mobile. Lake I'm pretty sure requires only electric motors. I always see people using their trolly motors. Good fishing.

My friend Seth and I were on an impromptu road trip across Pennsylvania after our kayaking plans were rained out. As we looked for campsites along the way, we called Kettle Creek State Park—and they went above and beyond. We explained that we were hammock camping, and the staff actually took the time to go out and personally check the site before assigning it to us. That kind of effort and care really stood out and made us feel welcomed and looked after. The park itself is quiet, peaceful, and full of natural beauty. It’s a perfect place for kayaking, fishing, or just relaxing by the water. Even though we arrived without much notice, it turned into one of our favorite stops of the trip. Highly recommend if you’re looking for serenity and a team that genuinely wants you to have a great experience.

This is one of my favorite if not my favorite state park. It has a beautiful lake and the drive there is beautiful too! My favorite part was the overlook at the park. It is a pretty far drive and it is on a narrow dirt road so if there is a lot of snow I wouldn't recommend going there. The park office is also really nice just like the rest of the park. 5/5
