Kettle Lakes
Overview
Kettle Lakes Provincial Park offers a striking landscape shaped by the retreat of great glaciers thousands of years ago. Located in Northern Ontario, this park features 22 deep kettle lakes nestled within a lush boreal forest. RV travelers will find a serene environment where the crystal-clear waters provide a perfect backdrop for a wilderness retreat. Unlike many parks with vast open waters, these smaller, spring-fed lakes offer a more intimate and tranquil setting for exploration and relaxation. This park is a testament to the power of glacial geology, providing a unique northern experience.
Location & Surroundings
Found just off Highway 101 in Connaught, Ontario, the park is situated about 45 minutes east of the city of Timmins. This region is characterized by thick stands of jack pine and black spruce, creating a secluded feel despite being easily accessible for larger rigs. The surrounding landscape is defined by rolling eskers and sandy ridges that were formed during the last ice age. It serves as an ideal gateway for those venturing further into the rugged beauty of the Great North, offering a transition from industrial hubs to pristine wilderness.
Amenities & Park Features
The park provides over 140 campsites, including many with electrical hookups specifically designed for RVers at the Island Lake and Slab Lake campgrounds. Visitors have access to modern comfort stations featuring hot showers and laundry facilities, making longer stays much more convenient. For those who want to get out on the water, the park offers canoe and kayak rentals to navigate the calm, sheltered lakes. A well-maintained visitor center provides educational insights into the park's unique ecosystem and its fascinating glacial origins.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore over 14 kilometers of biking trails that wind through the fragrant pine forests. The park features four distinct hiking trails, including the Tamarack Trail, which circles a unique peat bog environment. Anglers often visit to fish for rainbow and brook trout in the stocked, clear-water lakes. Nearby, the city of Timmins offers cultural sites like the Science Timmins center and various local heritage museums for those looking to mix nature with a bit of local northern history and urban convenience.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is perfect for family campers looking for safe swimming beaches at Slab Lake and gentle biking paths for all ages. It also appeals strongly to birdwatchers and nature photographers who appreciate the quiet beauty and biodiversity of the Boreal forest. Because of the peaceful atmosphere, it is an excellent choice for RVers who prefer a slower pace of travel away from the heavy crowds found in southern parks. It is best suited for those who enjoy self-contained outdoor activities and scenic tranquility.

The cabin is an absolutely amazing value with beautiful scenery. There's plenty of easy trails in the park to hike, and it's a quick trip to Timmins if you need to get supplies. I would definitely go back again.

We made a last minute switch from The Islands to The Pines and I'm so glad we did! Our site was huge and only had neighbors on the one side. (Site 12 I only took a picture of half our site, the other side had our truck and 8 man tent). Yes you can hear the road traffic but it stops at night and is just white noise during the day. The frogs can get noisy at night but that's nature. Water and toilets were nice and close but not too close that you see everyone coming and going.(Comfort stations are in the island campground and I would not walk it) Next time we will bring salt as there were a lot of leeches in Bull Frog Lake (most of the lakes actually). We brought a small motor boat and had a lot of luck fishing Hughes Lake!

Stayed at site 125 for 15 nights. It was a long 8.5 hr haul but worth it. Really big park with lots to see. Fishing is not the greatest within the park but there are so many trails and small lakes to paddle board on. The dog beach is a nice little spot as well. The comfort station was clean and maintained. Dumping station for trailers was easy to access. We heard people complaining to park staff about the bugs and fire ban and they actually got a refund. If you don't like bugs, don't camp and stay in a hotel. It's hard enough booking campgrounds in Ontario. Don't waste reservations. We will definitely be back in the area again. Thank you to all the staff for keeping this park a great place to visit.

Amazing campground. Best park I’ve been too in years! Staff were super friendly, everywhere you went was clean. The beaches, campsites, bathrooms were all spotless. Sites are nice and private, you’re not looking right at your neighbour. Canoe rates were cheap! ($15 for 4 hours or $30 for 8 hours) and you had multiple lakes to choose from. I’ll be coming back here and recommending it to everyone.

We were looking for a place to stop for lunch and Kettle Lakes Provincial Park fit this plan perfectly. Loved the area and especially all the winding walkways and stairs down to the water over looking a large lake view surrounded by tree line. Benches built into the walkways was our resting stop for the afternoon. Wonderful place, peace and quiet. Not crowded, shade or sunshine. Picture Perfect
