Overview

The Kettle Moraine State Forest - Pike Lake Unit offers a serene escape nestled within the glacial landscape of southeastern Wisconsin. This 522-acre lake serves as the centerpiece for a park that celebrates the unique geological history of the region. Managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the park provides a lush, wooded environment for RVers looking to immerse themselves in nature. It is a destination where the glacial past meets modern recreation, offering a tranquil setting for those who appreciate the outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Located just east of Hartford, WI, the park sits along the eastern shore of Pike Lake. The surrounding terrain is defined by the Kettle Moraine, featuring rolling hills, kames, and kettles formed by retreating glaciers. Visitors are often struck by the height of Powder Hill, one of the highest points in the area, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The proximity to Highway 60 makes it an accessible retreat for regional travelers seeking a quick getaway.

  • Access to electric hookups at many campsites.
  • A conveniently located dump station and fresh water fill.
  • Modern seasonal shower buildings and flush toilets.

Each site also features a private fire ring and picnic table, making it easy to enjoy traditional outdoor meals under the canopy of mature hardwood trees.

Beautiful park, horrible bathroom situation. we came here today in late October for a fall hike. This is one of the most beautiful places to hike in the fall. After a lovely hike, went to use the facilities and the buildings were closed. There was only one porta potty for an entire park, full of people. It was absolutely full, and totally out of hand sanitizer. That’s just unacceptable. Keep the buildings open through November.

Made for hiking boating and camping. Driving through isn’t very impressive… but if you like to hike camp or play on the water this is a really nice natural location. Love it!

Kettle Moraine State Forest – Pike Lake Unit has been one of my go-to spots for years, and I still love coming back. It’s not far at all, which makes it easy to stop by for a quick hike, swim, or even a whole day outdoors. The trails are well maintained and well marked, including a stretch of the Ice Age Trail, and hiking up Powder Hill to the observation tower never gets old; the views are fantastic. The sandy beach is clean, family-friendly, and has nice amenities like restrooms, picnic areas, and a playground. The campground is wooded, peaceful, and great for a weekend away. It’s definitely on the smaller side compared to other state forest units, but that actually makes it feel more relaxed and easy to enjoy. After years of visiting, I can honestly say it’s still one of my favorite places to recharge in nature. Highly recommended.

One of my very favorite places...so beautiful! We spend a lot of time at the lake beach. It is always clean and even when the parking lot seems full, it never feels crowded. Mostly clean bathrooms. Lots of families with kids....there is NO LIFEGUARD.

Beautiful wooded climb to the observation tower. Remember that the experience is in the journey, the tower is just the bonus😉 providing a beautiful view of Holy Hill and Pike Lake in the same frame. We spent a leisurely 2hrs start to finish
