Kiser Lake

Overview

Kiser Lake State Park offers a unique and tranquil escape in the heart of Champaign County. Spanning over 531 acres, the lake is famously known for its prohibition of motorized watercraft, ensuring a level of quiet and stillness that is rare among Ohio state parks. This destination is defined by its glacial history and a deep-seated commitment to preserving a peaceful environment for nature enthusiasts and RV travelers seeking a slower pace of life under the open sky.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the village of St. Paris, the park is characterized by its scenic glacial hills and diverse ecosystems. The surrounding landscape includes lush meadows and the Kiser Lake Wetlands State Nature Preserve, which provides a vibrant backdrop of rare flora and fauna. Its central location in Western Ohio makes it an accessible retreat for those traveling from Dayton or Columbus, yet it feels entirely secluded once you enter the serene lakeside environment.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground offers 118 sites, many of which are equipped with electric hookups designed to accommodate various RV sizes. While the park leans toward a more rustic experience rather than a luxury resort, it provides essential comforts including a dump station, seasonal shower houses, and flush toilets. Families and outdoor lovers will appreciate the well-maintained swimming beach and the seasonal nature center, which offers educational programs about the local wildlife and geology.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based activities are the primary draw here, with exceptional opportunities for paddling and fishing. Because the water remains calm without the wake of motorboats, it is a premier spot for kayaking and canoeing. On land, hikers can explore several miles of trails that wind through the woods and along the shoreline. For a day trip, the historic Cedar Bog Nature Preserve and the architectural marvels of the Piatt Castles are located just a short drive away.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for RVers who prioritize peace and birdwatching over high-speed recreation. It is a favorite for anglers who appreciate a quiet lake and families looking for a safe, low-traffic environment for children to explore. If your travel style favors a rustic camping experience where the sounds of nature are the main attraction, Kiser Lake State Park is a perfect destination for your next Ohio adventure.

Nice kayak launch at the marina. Didn't even have to get our feet wet to put our kayaks in and out of the water. We like the fact that power boats are not allowed.

I love Kiser lake! It's close to home and it's a paddle only lake great for kayaking with the kids! It's a small lake with campgrounds and the water can be a little murky sometimes but that can be any lake in Ohio!

My fiance and I have been looking for a place closer to home to go camping and fishing. We checked this place out and it's pretty nice! We're planning on going camping here in a few weeks

This little lake is wonderful. It's Primitive for camping and you will want to bring all the extras . No showers. But you also have unobstructed views of the stars with no artificial light to serve The wonders of God's creation.
