I hosted a work off-site retreat for my team of 8 at KRS Camp James in October 2025. The feedback from my team was overwhelmingly positive. The cabins we stayed in excellent shape, clean and stocked with all the essentials! There was ample outdoor space for us to use for gathering, sharing meals and enjoying the beautiful natural setting. It is less than half a mile from downtown Kernville with easy access to the local grocery store and restaurants. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would recommend staying here if you are heading to the Kern River!

Always a great stay and wonderful location. Are quite a bit of rules, but it does help to keep it clean and safe feeling. Many sites along river are spacious and deep for big rigs. Site 67 is not too level and a bit tight to back in, but very private. Others are fine for mid size rigs. They clean and rake each site before you check in. Been going in fall off and on for a few years and is a great time to be in Kernville.

I stayed for eight nights, which included both a mid-week and a weekend experience. Mid-week was peaceful and quiet, perfect for my solo respite. But I also enjoyed the sounds of children playing, exploring, and experiencing new adventures. The weekend brought lots of families and pets, and I enjoyed them as well. The late September weather was warm and perfect during the daytime, and I was very comfortable at night in my tent. The front desk people were friendly and informative, and the maintenance crew was exceptionally thorough. The grounds are beautifully maintained. I’ve been coming to Camp James for years and I expect to return for many more.

Very lovely campground located on the Kern River. The site was in good condition upon arrival and very spacious, fire pit was definitely cleaned before arrival. Bathrooms and showers were very clean as well. We really liked all the shade the tress provided, especially nice in the afternoon heat. We felt a couple of rules were a little too much. Like charging $15 to check-in 2 hours early if the site is available. I have never been charged at a hotel for early check-in. It's a small fee but its just a formality that would make guests feel more relaxed. Secondly, 2 vehicles (regular cars) are not allowed to park in the site together. But an RV that takes the same or more space is allowed. We didn't feel it was fair to the 2nd car since one car had a roof top tent where we slept so by default the other car has to park in the "guest spots" outside of the campground by the check-in booth. The parking outside was also quite crowded thus difficult to find a spot when we are a registered guests there. These things are not deal breakers but our party felt it would make it KRS RV Resort perfect! Overall, we would love to stay there again.

We stayed at KRS campsite #15, while our friends stayed at site #7. Overall, the campground is very well maintained. You can even check out games to play, and the river is close by. Trash stations were conveniently placed throughout the area, and each site comes with a picnic table, BBQ grill at the front, and a fire pit at the back. Our site had full hookups, which was great. The ground at our site was slightly damp but firm—not muddy—and very well kept. We didn’t use the showers or toilets since we had our trailer hooked up, but everything looked clean. Our friends at site #7 had a dry site with a creek running behind it, which was really nice. There are plenty of trees for shade. They also rent cabanas, though I didn’t care for the break wall in front of them. There’s a fish cleaning station available, though we didn’t use it. Wi-Fi is included free for one person per week, which was handy. The town is nearby, and the Giant Sequoias are only about an hour’s drive. Staff were constantly emptying the trash cans, which kept the area tidy. Part of the campground is gated, and while I wasn’t a big fan of wearing wristbands, they do help keep the camp safe. Overall, we had a great time and I highly recommend this campground!
