La Paz County Park

Overview

La Paz County Park offers a quintessential desert-meets-river experience along the scenic banks of the Colorado River. This sprawling destination is a favorite for travelers seeking a balance of waterfront relaxation and desert adventure. Unlike a cramped commercial resort, the park provides a sense of openness with established trees and wide-reaching views of the surrounding mountains and water. It serves as a social hub for the local RV community while maintaining a peaceful, natural atmosphere.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just north of Parker, Arizona, the park is nestled in the famous Parker Strip, a stretch of the river known for its deep blue waters and diverse recreational opportunities. The landscape is characterized by the striking contrast of the Mojave Desert terrain against the lush, irrigated riverbanks. Visitors can enjoy the dry, sunny climate typical of the region while remaining just steps away from the refreshing current of the river, providing a unique microclimate for campers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped to handle various camping styles, offering a wide range of RV sites with hookups to accommodate everything from modest vans to big rigs. Guests have access to essential facilities including clean restrooms, hot showers, and laundry rooms. For recreation within the grounds, there are on-site boat ramps and dedicated spaces for athletic activities like tennis and horseshoes. The park also features a large dog park, making it a highly accessible choice for those traveling with pets.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, the area is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Golfers can head to the Emerald Canyon Golf Course, often cited as one of the most beautiful desert courses in the state due to its canyon-carved fairways. For those interested in local history and engineering, the Parker Dam is a short drive away. Off-roaders will find miles of desert trails to explore in the surrounding backcountry, while the river itself remains the primary draw for swimming, kayaking, and competitive fishing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for active retirees looking for a long-term winter base and families who enjoy water-based activities. It serves as a perfect hub for boating enthusiasts who want direct river access without the high price tag of luxury commercial resorts. If you prefer a more natural, community-oriented atmosphere where the focus is on the great outdoors and direct water access rather than high-end paved amenities, La Paz County Park is an excellent choice for your Arizona itinerary.

I give this 3 stars for the location only. The park itself I found very disappointing. Most everything is in disrepair and mismanaged. I can't say that the day to day people are the issue, I just felt it was a stain on La Paz county for letting it become this bad. The water is non potable and not good for your water system unless it is pre filtered. The section that I was able to move to after requesting to be moved had some electrical issues that I guess only effects summer guests because of capacity issues wasn't a problem per say but did cause some confusion with where we could plug in. We had no cell service here and were advised that their internet is hit or miss and not really safe due to lack of security so we didn't try using it. On the positive side, it has decent dog parks and an awesome location.

We'll be leaving soon but I wanted to post now because Rachael and Robert who work check-ins are so nice, so friendly and accommodated us after a mishap with our reservation. The friends we made here, the fun we had was A+. The area I feel is nicer then up in Lake Havasu, less people and less crowds. The campers here are exceptionally friendly. We were here during the boat races and that was a first for me. It was fun! Thank you, Rachael for everything. We appreciate you! Until we see you again, happy trails!

Great county park with Friendly staff. Dogs are welcome. We decided to dry camp on the southeast end of the property for two weeks and didn't have any issues. Looked a little stacked and tight at the prime locations. Reasonably priced for being next to the river. I only had two neighbors the entire stay and they were about 300 feet to the south of me.
