Lake Bob Sandlin

Overview

Lake Bob Sandlin State Park offers a serene escape within the lush landscapes of Northeast Texas. Spanning over 640 acres along the northern shore of its namesake reservoir, this park is a centerpiece of the East Texas Piney Woods region. Visitors are often struck by the transition between towering pines and vibrant hardwood forests that create a colorful canopy throughout the seasons. It serves as a premier destination for those looking to combine waterfront recreation with a quiet, nature-focused camping experience.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside of Pittsburg, TX, the park is nestled in an area known for its Tri-Lakes geography, shared with Lake Monticello and Lake Cypress Springs. The surrounding environment is characterized by sweetgum and hickory trees, providing ample shade for RV sites and a rich habitat for local wildlife. The elevation is gently rolling, offering scenic overlooks of the 9,000-acre lake. This location provides a perfect balance of seclusion while remaining accessible to the charming historic district of downtown Pittsburg.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped for modern travelers, offering numerous RV sites with 30 and 50-amp electricity and water hookups. Many sites also feature sewer connections, providing a comfortable setup for extended stays. On-site facilities include clean restrooms with hot showers, a dedicated boat ramp, and a lighted fishing pier that remains popular after sunset. For those traveling with children, the park features a well-maintained playground and several designated picnic areas located right along the shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Anglers are drawn here for the exceptional largemouth bass and crappie fishing, which can be enjoyed from the shore or by boat. On land, the Brim Slough Trail offers a scenic route for hikers and birdwatchers to explore the park's diverse ecosystems. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards for local tastings or visit the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Center to learn about the region's unique history and agricultural roots.

Who This Park Is Best For

This state park is an ideal choice for nature photographers and birdwatchers who appreciate the quiet beauty of the Texas hardwoods. Wonderful state park! Nice hiking trails, good camping sites, lots of trees, plenty of land to just explore. There are large trees, picnic tables, and restrooms in the day use area, which is right on the shore. Lake Bob Sandlin is a really nice lake! If you go boating, there are coves where the water is calm, good for swimming. Shoreline is beautiful.

Super gorgeous, well maintained state park. Stay alert, though. We did see a juvenile copperhead on one of the hiking trails.

Super nice park. Large spaces with privacy bush between most. Most spaces for camping in RVs are level. You pull up to your spot close to the lake and say "oh no" because they look so sloped to the bank but upon closer inspection the spots level out to just about perfect for parking. The restrooms are cleaner than most with good water pressure and privacy. Could use a little scrubbing on the walls in the showers near the floor but wearing your rubber shower shoes fixes that little issue. Spot 037 is shaded as most about 98% of the time. Tried fishing from our little private beach - location (spot 037) but the fish wasn't going to have anything to do with that. No covers over the tables but not really needed because of the tree cover. The park is not overly patrolled but being seniors we visit parks mostly during the week when there are less people to worry with. Great park and management.

We have a such a relaxing time when visiting the Bob Sandlin State Park.we enjoy the feel of the woods from hiking or the coolness of the water when kayaking. They have numerous places to fish and camp that are primitive or for campers. The best thing about the Park is that it's a few miles from our home so we can visit any time for a good time.

Wow! What a beautiful place! Between camping, fishing, swimming and hiking the trails. My family stayed busy and enjoyed every minute of it! Can't wait to get back and explore some more with the family!
