Millennium Park is where Lake Charles comes to hang out. Right on the lakefront next to the Civic Center and boardwalk, it’s got the best views in town. Pros: Splash pad for kids that actually runs strong in summer, big green lawn for picnics, amphitheater that hosts festivals + free concerts. The boardwalk connects to the marina and Veteran’s Memorial Park, so you can walk for miles. Sunsets over the lake with the I-10 bridge lit up are gorgeous. Free parking, clean bathrooms, and tons of events — Contraband Days, live music, food truck nights. Cons: Not much shade on the main lawn — Texas/LA summer sun will cook you by noon. Splash pad gets crowded with daycares/summer camps on weekdays. Some homeless folks around the Civic Center area, but LCPD patrols regularly. Playground is basic compared to newer parks. Tip: Go evenings or during an event. Bring a blanket + chairs. Check the City of Lake Charles calendar before you go — if there’s a concert, it’s 10x better. Verdict: Not a hiking trail or nature escape. It’s an urban waterfront park done right. Best free thing to do downtown with kids or on a date night.

We visited this park for 3 nights in mid-May. This is a very nice park with a 650 acre lake. Many of the campsites are pretty sloped and would be difficult for larger RVs to get level. But if you choose carefully you can find one most of the time. We love the way the lake trail is paved and goes around a good part of the lake with some fishing piers and other nice amenities. The trail is flat and an easy walk. The bath house near our campsite number 2 is comprised of four private bathrooms with toilets, sinks and showers for total privacy. Each private bath measures about 9 ft by 11 ft. The bathroom size is about the same as those of a Marriott hotel and 2-3 times larger than a typical RV bathroom. Showers are free and work well. It is the only the 2nd park that we've been in that has private bathrooms on one end of the campground. The bathrooms could be improved by adding more shelves for toiletries and hooks for clothes. There's very few now. There are lots of flies, mosquitoes and ants at this park. So be prepared to get bit. While we love the park, we do not like how buggy it is in May through September. Park also has no dedicated tent sites but you can use the regular sites with tents. The $26 night cost is still reasonable even though you don't need the on-site water or electric with a tent so much. Without the insects, this would be one of our favorite parks in Arkansas. Very friendly people, beautiful scenery along the lake, good fishing & hiking, and a well-managed park. Our T-Mobile phones had powerful connections ranging between 3 and 5 bars. The sites are well spread out. Overall, we would rate our experience at 4 stars.

Great camping experience! Nice and clean campgrounds and facilities. If you’re looking for a quiet place to relax and spend family time then book one of Lake Charles’ campsite before they are all booked up!

Beautiful park! We enjoyed one of the picnic tables and charcoal grills, and hiking the trails. Nice clean restrooms. Kayak rental available if you download an app and rent through it.

Beautiful park! Very clean. Campsites are great. We were in site 45. Waterfront. The only bad thing I would say is about some of the stones they have around the lakeside sites are loose! Our friends were in the site next to us and he stepped on a loose brick/ stone, fell and skinned his hands up. Other than that we had a good time!

This is a great little park. Has a few trails, great playgrounds and clean bathrooms. We loved our short stay here. Nice location as well for things to do in the area.

One of my favorite places to be. I fish here a lot. Beautiful scenery, clean bathrooms (maybe the cleanest state park restrooms), and lots to do. Fishing, camping, several trails, and a swimming beach.

I visited this state park to go fishing and I was very impressed with it. It is well maintained, they have many areas where you can fish from shore, they have fishing docks/piers, and they have boat access as well. They have a store onsite that sells bait, fishing gear, snacks, drinks, and more. There is plenty of parking available. There is part of the lake that is available for swimming. They have restrooms and campgrounds and nice walking trails too. There were several people walking there dogs there and they had a playground and picnic areas too. I would have like more bait being available at the store. They just had worms and catfish bait but some minnows would have been nice. Overall, great park and I look forward to visiting it again.

Stumbled upon this state park by accident. While passing through. Very clean and well maintained. Clean restroom facilities. Beautiful lake . Small swimming area. Play ground available for small kids.

Hiked 3.22 miles done today on 3 trails, for a total of 4.67 miles including just on the road and back to my truck. I first did the White Oak trail and took probably 100 spider webs to the face, lol! This loop trail was maintained well and marked well, very user friendly and I think 1-2 benched throughout for the 1.7 mile hike. After the wooded hike I did the paved trail around the lake, which I realized later is the Cedar trail and it's gorgeous! Short, easy, lovely nature views, highly recommend!

We fully enjoyed our last minute stay here! The bathrooms were exceptionally maintained and the staff we did run into was extremely friendly and polite. The sites were dispersed around the circle for viewing the lake in a nice fashion. We liked it enough to stay an extra night. We also liked the nicer picnic tables and lantern hooks. The trees made it easy to hang the hammocks.

Park store is well stocked & staff friendly & knowledgeable. Came for the 2024 Eclipse & they had a nice packet prepared for the day & learning more about the state. Enjoyed a Ranger led program about the eclipse as well as park preparations for same. Everything seems well planned & running as planned. Almost time for the dark to begin.
