Lake Creek
Overview
Lake Creek Campground serves as a peaceful, rustic retreat for travelers navigating the legendary Alaska Highway. Located near the western edge of the Yukon Territory, this territorial campground offers a genuine wilderness experience away from the noise of more developed commercial parks. Visitors appreciate the quiet atmosphere and the opportunity to disconnect while surrounded by the natural beauty of the north. It is an ideal spot to rest before or after crossing the nearby international border, providing a serene environment to enjoy the midnight sun.
Location & Surroundings
Situated at Kilometer 1845 of the Alaska Highway, the park is just a short drive from Beaver Creek, YT, Canada’s most westerly community. The campground is nestled within a lush boreal forest, providing plenty of privacy and natural screening for each site. The area is defined by its rugged landscape and proximity to the creek itself, which flows gently nearby. Its strategic location makes it an essential stopping point for those making the long journey between Whitehorse and the Alaskan interior.
Amenities & Park Features
As a government-operated site, Lake Creek focuses on providing essential services rather than luxury resort amenities. The facilities are designed to support self-sufficient travelers while maintaining the integrity of the natural environment. Key features include:
- Well-maintained pit toilets and hand pumps for non-potable water.
- Spacious sites equipped with picnic tables and heavy-duty fire rings.
- A communal kitchen shelter and complimentary firewood often provided for guests.
Because there are no electrical hookups, sewer connections, or Wi-Fi, it is perfect for those who enjoy dry camping and a slower pace of life.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for many visitors is the excellent grayling fishing found right in Lake Creek. Anglers can spend hours by the water enjoying the solitude of the Yukon wilderness. Nature enthusiasts will find ample opportunities for bird watching and spotting local wildlife like moose or foxes in their natural habitat. Just a few minutes away, travelers can visit the Beaver Creek Visitor Information Centre to learn about the region's history or prepare for the United States border crossing located just 30 kilometers to the west.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is best suited for self-contained RVers who value peace, quiet, and a natural setting over modern conveniences. It is a favorite for adventure seekers and long-haul travelers who prefer a rustic experience rather than a paved parking lot. Because the sites are fairly spacious, it can accommodate a variety of rig sizes, though those looking for full hookups or laundry facilities should plan accordingly. It is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to experience the authentic Yukon spirit in a breathtaking northern setting.

Lucky to find this place, nothing else around. We had no hookups but were thankful to find a pretty and safe place for the night.

Nice place right off the road but quiet. It was pouring rain so I didn't get out to see much but we had a great level pull through site with lots of privacy.

The best campground that Yukon has to offer! It is clean and easy to get in and out of. Make sure you have cash. It's $20 CDN per night.

Stopped here for one night both to and from Alaska. $20 Canadian (need cash) per night on the honor system. Great sites, pit toilets, free firewood (awesome and very well stocked). Right by the river and beautiful for a sunset. Quiet as well. While we can't 100% confirm, we think this is where we encountered some poison ivy or oak or something, so do watch out. Great stop about an hour and a half after Destruction Bay where the Alcan starts to really get rough.

A beautiful small campground with mostly very large and private campsites. We were the only ones here for two nights. Clean bathrooms and free firewood.
