Lake Cumberland - COE/Fall Creek Campground

Overview

Fall Creek Campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, offers a serene escape on the southern shores of Lake Cumberland. Tucked away in the rolling hills of Kentucky, this campground provides a peaceful alternative to the busier marinas nearby. It is characterized by its lush forest canopy and waterfront access, making it a prime destination for those who want to experience the natural beauty of the region without the crowds.

Location & Surroundings

Located near Monticello, KY, the park sits on a narrow peninsula, providing many sites with glimpses of the turquoise water. The drive into the campground takes you through scenic winding roads typical of the Lake Cumberland region. The surrounding landscape is dominated by dense hardwood forests and limestone cliffs, creating a secluded atmosphere where the sounds of the lake and local wildlife take center stage for every visitor.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features approximately 39 campsites, many equipped with electric hookups for RVers. While the setting is rustic, guests have access to essential facilities including a central dump station and a bathhouse with hot showers. One of the most significant features is the on-site boat ramp, which allows campers to launch directly into one of the lake's quietest sections. A playground and picnic areas are also available for families to enjoy.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw here is the water, with boating and fishing being the top activities for guests. Lake Cumberland is renowned for its world-class striped bass fishing. For those looking to explore on land, the city of Monticello is a short drive away, known as the Houseboat Capital of the World. You can also visit local historic sites or take a day trip to explore the rugged trails and overlooks found throughout Wayne County.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for boating enthusiasts and anglers who prioritize quick access to the water. Because of its smaller size and secluded location, it is perfect for RVers seeking a quiet, nature-focused experience rather than a high-traffic resort. If you enjoy a traditional camping vibe where the focus is on the great outdoors and starry nights, Fall Creek is an excellent choice for your next Kentucky road trip.

Beautiful small (9 or 10 sites) campground located at the end of a peninsula, at the end of a somewhat steep, blacktopped country road. Surrounded on three sides by water where Fall Creek meets Lake Cumberland. The sites are tight, with not a lot of maneuvering room. I'm going to say that this campground is not really big rig friendly. We pulled our 27 ft 5th wheel in and went back and forth a lot to get into our site. Fortunately, since all the other sites were vacant, we were able to utilize the other sites as maneuvering room. The dump station is really difficult to get into too! Pull forward, back up hill, sharp angle. Sites are electric and water only. Gravel base, lots of shade, level. Very well kept and clean. We were there on a Tues night in mid-August, other than the hosts and a tent, it was empty and so so quiet. On the weekends in the summer, expect a LOT of boat noise as this is a very popular "party" lake with tons of boat traffic. I live here, so I know how it is. We don't even go anywhere on the lake on a Saturday it's just so crazy. Stray cats wandering around. Kind of sad. 1 bar on Verizon.

Excellent campground to get away and find some serenity. Only 9 campsites and all are pretty roomy. I can't see a 5th wheel getting in there very easily because of the turn around. Boat ramp is very close to campsites but there's only about 10 or so parking spots. Hookups are good, the bathroom and shower are good, but there's no Wi-Fi/Internet. No wood for sale and no ice. Would easily be a 5 star with WiFi, wood and ice.

Loved it! Very relaxing, clean, quiet...a great get away. Only complaint - the steep boat ramp. A difficult climb for many. The overall area was beautiful! The lake is clear and there are many coves to enjoy! Take note: we did find a scorpion at our site.

Fall Creek Recreation Area is a great place to launch a small boat, camp with your family or spend the day exploring the lake, having a picnic and letting the kids play.
