Lake Cumberland - COE/Fishing Creek Campground

Overview

Fishing Creek Campground offers a serene and scenic retreat on the northern shores of Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. As a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility, it provides a well-maintained, natural setting for travelers looking to experience one of the largest man-made lakes in the eastern United States. The park is characterized by its rolling, wooded terrain and easy access to the water, making it a popular choice for those who value outdoor recreation over the bustle of a commercial resort.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled just west of Somerset, KY, the campground sits on a peninsula surrounded by the tranquil Fishing Creek arm of the lake. This specific area is defined by its lush landscapes and dense hardwood forests that provide significant shade during the warm summer months. Guests will find themselves conveniently close to the local services in town while still feeling tucked away in a quiet, lakeside environment that highlights the natural beauty of the southern Kentucky plateau.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features numerous spacious sites, many of which are equipped with electric hookups and paved pads to accommodate various RV sizes. While the park maintains a rustic, natural feel, visitors have access to essential comforts including modern restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient on-site dump station for waste management. A primary draw for visitors is the multi-lane boat ramp, which facilitates easy water access for those bringing their own vessels, along with a playground for families.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based activities dominate the experience here, with world-class fishing for bass, walleye, and crappie available right from the shoreline or by boat. Beyond the park gates, visitors can explore the vast trails of the Daniel Boone National Forest or drive a short distance to witness the famous Moonbow at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. For those seeking local culture, Somerset hosts popular monthly classic car shows and offers a variety of local dining and shopping experiences.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is an ideal match for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want to be positioned just steps away from the water. It also appeals to budget-conscious RVers and families who appreciate the quiet, structured environment common to COE parks. If you prefer a peaceful, nature-focused stay where you can unplug and enjoy the sounds of the forest, Fishing Creek provides the perfect balance of scenic seclusion and accessibility.

Amazing place to camp. The host Barb and Harold are amazing people. I could write all day about how wonderful these 2 people are. We felt safe and welcome there. They came around every little bit and brought all the kids in the camp ground popsicles and made sure everyone was doing okay. You could not have found better people to run and care for this campground. I will most definitely be coming back as long as they are there and will let others know how amazing this place is. Thank you

Stayed here this weekend!! The hosts were amazing. The facilities are well kept. The view from our site was amazing!!! The sites all seem well maintained and level. Even the primitive sites were super nice. Not very big. But has a boat ramp, beach, swimming area even though it’s not marked and a nice playground. Will definitely come back yearly.

The views from our sites were great! Very quiet campground. Sites along waters edge are very close together. Must be able to keep your pet on a leash.
