Lake Cuyamaca

Lake Cuyamaca is a nice but small lake with a very welcoming general manager and friendly and helpful staff overall. We had reserved a campsite for a fishing trip at the end of summer. When we arrived we found out the lake was being stocked for an upcoming event that weekend which meant no fishing was allowed. It would have been helpful to know this at registration (we would have chosen another week) but we do understand the need to let the fish settle and are even considering coming back for the event itself. Our 7-year-old was a little disappointed, but she understood why the lake was closed. We tried to let her practice casting with a toy practice lure on her pole, just to keep her excited about learning. Unfortunately, one employee came over rather abruptly and told us even that wasn't allowed. That was surprising, since the weekend derby event is supposed to encourage kids to get into fishing. All in all, we give 3 stars because the lake and staff were nice, but the lack of clear communication about the fishing closure and the "no dummy fishing pole" rule left our visit less enjoyable than it could have been.

Easy day spot from North county. Loads of nature so big repellant and closed containers a must. Might need to bring shade depending on your spot

Nature, bugs, and relaxation. We came to the campsite ready to relax and soak up some sun with a few walks and a little work on the road. The campsites are a little close together which wasn't too big of a deal for us as they were all mostly shaded with a beautiful view of the lake. EVERYONE was fishing and was catching things here and there. There's an island to explore and a lot of kind people when we went. Even a bunch of rowdy youngins' next to our campsite were super chill and helpful and it was an all around nice and wholesome experience. There's close access to cars and some critters that do visit late at night but keeping the campsite clean and locking up the food should do fine ! Also be aware of Ticks in the right seasons. Even with the proper meds our boy came back with a few and even though we were in shorts my wife and I came home clean. 10/10. Also visit the pub. Awesome food and delicious beers worth the mini trip around the corner!

Stopped in for a late lunch with friends! Sat out on the deck and enjoyed the lake and fowl around and in the lake. Now, the menu. First noticed all the different beers and IPA'S. Just noticed the variety. I'm a non drinker, still very impressive. Menu, great variety and lots of choices Did I mention the staff/wait staff. Delightful! Courteous, Kind, OK, you get the idea. I'm ready to return.

We stayed at the Lone Pine camping location. And it is as a nice location. The sites are a decent size, bathrooms are clean, shower requires quarters....bring a couple dollars per shower. 3min/$1. Not a lot of shade, but some trees. Ground is pretty hard (so stakes are a challenge), rocky but not bad. Trails run down to the water for fishing (you will need permits).

We stayed at the chamber’s campsite on the northwestern side of the lake. It was pleasant with lots of trees for shade, tables and parking. There were excellent trails to walk and you could cross over to the island and hike around it. It was quiet at night and cooler this Sunday because there was a heatwave that was coming to an end. The park staff were friendly and did their job well in keeping an eye on everything; we felt safe at night. I recommend a stay here in a tent, trailer, RV or Cabin.

Beautiful lake with wonderful views around and across the very large lake. The Pub restaurant is a jewel, right on the lake. The food is excellent and the service is superb. Our server Ashley was fantastic, professional, friendly and a joy. The chili is superb, the coleslaw is divine, the onion rings were great. my burger was hugh and loaded. it's worth the drive to enjoy the country style lake view dining

My family and I visited for a few hours. The weather was perfect and the views are beautiful. We came on thursday around 1 pm and there were only a few people in sight which I admit, it was very nice haha. I only gave 4 stars because the bathrooms were closed. Only the portapotties were open. Overall it was a great day.

Beautiful location but the staff managing the resort are beyond rude. Edit: Honestly I think this is an example of discrimination. See the response from the owner below. First in their letter they said we had too many dogs but we had 2 reservations and in their rules it states 2 dogs per reservation. Now they are making up complaints about our dogs not being on leash which never happened. Our dogs were always leashed in the resort. One of our neighbors had a non dog friendly pitbull so we made it a point to make sure all of our pets were always leashed. Our family trains dogs part time and we've never had complaints about our animal's behavior. In fact I distinctly remember multiple comments daily about how well behaved our pack was. Keep in mind our stay was over a year ago. We were never given any sort of complaint over the course of our week long stay. Absolutely ridiculous.

Not the biggest or most exciting lake but the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Usually gets pretty hot around these areas for most of the year but it is the perfect Sunday drive down to Cuyamaca Rancho State park. However, you are missing out on hands down the best panoramic viewpoint in San Diego by taking the 79 and not taking the Sunrise National Scenic Byway.

Restaurant and shop were amazing. Great food, and an AMAZING beer assortment (bottles) in the shop. Better than most of what I've seen in San Diego in years.

Very relaxing and beautiful in autumn. Parking fee is $10. Many tables, good for picnic. The road is relatively well maintained. One bad thing is the lake loop trail is not so "loop", you have to use the road for the last part
