Lake Greenwood

Overview

Lake Greenwood State Park offers a peaceful lakeside escape in the heart of South Carolina’s Old 96 District. Spread across nearly 1,000 acres, this park is widely recognized for its historic CCC-built structures and its prime position on a massive 11,400-acre reservoir. It serves as a vital gateway to the water for travelers, providing a quiet, wooded environment that highlights the natural beauty of the Piedmont region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on a series of scenic peninsulas in Ninety Six, the park is almost entirely surrounded by the deep blue waters of Lake Greenwood. The local landscape features a dense mix of mature hardwood forests and tall pine stands that provide plenty of privacy and shade for campers. Because of its location on the lake's southern shore, the park offers expansive views and access to premier freshwater fishing spots.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides spacious sites that accommodate various RV sizes, featuring water and electrical hookups at most locations. Visitors enjoy access to level pads, picnic tables, and fire rings. Park features include:

  • Centrally located bathhouse facilities with hot showers.
  • Two paved boat ramps for easy lake access.
  • Historic stone picnic shelters for group gatherings.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Travelers can explore the Nature Trail, which offers a winding three-mile path through the forest, or spend the day paddling along the shoreline. A short drive leads to the Ninety Six National Historic Site, a must-visit for history enthusiasts wanting to explore Revolutionary War battlefields. Additionally, the nearby town of Greenwood provides a variety of local restaurants, seasonal festivals, and unique boutiques for a quick day trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for anglers and boaters looking for a traditional South Carolina camping experience. It specifically appeals to RVers who prefer a scenic and natural atmosphere over the hustle of a commercial resort. Those who enjoy quiet mornings by the water, birdwatching, and evening lakeside sunsets will find that this park fits their relaxed travel style perfectly.

This state park had campsites with fantastic views of the lake and overall the park had a lot to offer with boat ramps and walking trails. The only thing I did not like was the narrow camp roads which made it hard to maneuver your camper into a campsite and the numerous non level sites that required you to use many leveling blocks to get your camper leveled up, I would think the designers would have had a little more for sight to make it easier for campers with trailers. Also the sites are so short you barely have room to park your vehicle without it sticking out in the road. I would recommend this campground but know what you are in for when you get there.

One of the best state parks in the SC system. Beautiful, well-maintained, and plenty of options for lakeside recreation. Great campground - bring your bikes!

Gorgeous park. We had an awesome time tent camping. Pet friendly as long as they are on a leash. Bathrooms close enough to campsite. Our site had electric and water, picnic table, and fire pit, space for tents and two cars. Trees for hammocks. Access to water from campsite. We will be back.

Beautiful lake and grounds. Lots of nice spots to picnic. Nice play scape for kids. Camp spots are very close together but all with nice views of the lake and some suitable for pulling you boat up to during your stay. Bathrooms are nice with several shower stalls.
