Lake Hilbert Campground
Overview
Lake Hilbert Campground offers a peaceful retreat located within the scenic landscapes of Marinette County. This county-run facility provides a classic Northwoods experience where the focus is on natural beauty and quiet relaxation. Set along the sparkling waters of the lake, the park serves as a gateway for travelers looking to disconnect from the bustle of modern life and reconnect with the Wisconsin outdoors and the vast county forest system.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the small community of Fence, WI, the campground is surrounded by dense forests and rolling hills. The lakefront location is the primary draw, offering clear views and immediate access to the 100-acre water body. This region of Northern Wisconsin is known for its rugged terrain and thousands of acres of public lands, making it a prime destination for those who appreciate a secluded atmosphere while traveling through the Northwoods.
Amenities & Park Features
The park accommodates RVers with sites that include electric hookups and essential comforts like picnic tables and fire rings. Visitors have access to the following features:
- A sandy swimming beach and dedicated picnic area.
- A convenient boat launch for easy lake access.
- A playground and seasonal firewood sales.
While the setting is rustic, the park provides a sanitary dump station and pressurized well water. Many sites are generously sized, offering a degree of privacy often missing in more modern, commercial parks.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to explore beyond the park boundaries. The area is famous for its scenic waterfalls, with Goodman Park and McClintock Park located just a short drive away on the Peshtigo River. Anglers can spend their days targeting panfish and northern pike, while the surrounding county roads are popular for those interested in long-distance ATV riding. Hiking through the nearby timberlands offers frequent sightings of local wildlife like deer and bald eagles.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for families and anglers who prefer a traditional camping experience over a commercial resort. It is a perfect fit for travelers who enjoy water-based recreation and the tranquility of a heavily wooded environment. If you value easy lake access and a community-oriented vibe where the nights are quiet, this park will suit your travel style perfectly, especially if you arrive in a self-contained RV.

Nicely located campground that's UTV friendly and just off the trail. Large sandy beach in walking distance. Clean showers and bathrooms.

This is a very nice campground and the owner is super. The sites are large and nicely shaded; everything is very well kept up. The lake and beach is nice, with a new playground, new pickleball and basketball courts.

One of our favorite places to camp! The staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming! We will be back to visit again!

Friendly staff, great little spot to get hot sandwiches or icecream at the lodge. Bathrooms and showers a little rough. Most seasonal sites are well cared for and tuckes away except for the dilapidated seasonal rv next to the Gaga ball pit. Could use a garbage can as there, was trash next to the pit each morning. Great location next to the county park along the lake. Would definitely visit again.
