Lake Maloney SRA

Overview

Lake Maloney State Recreation Area offers a tranquil retreat for RV travelers just south of the vibrant city of North Platte. Spanning over 1,000 acres of land around a massive reservoir, this park is a beloved destination for those seeking a mix of outdoor adventure and relaxation. Whether you are passing through Nebraska on Interstate 80 or looking for a multi-day lakeside escape, this recreation area provides a natural setting with the convenience of proximity to urban services.

Location & Surroundings

Situated roughly six miles south of North Platte, the park centers around the expansive 1,132-acre lake. The landscape is characterized by open Nebraska skies and the shimmering waters of the reservoir, which serves as a vital irrigation and power generation source. The surrounding terrain is primarily flat, making it easy to navigate for larger rigs while providing unobstructed views of the sunset over the water each evening.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped for RVers, featuring 56 camping pads with 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups located on the east side of the lake. While the sites are more rustic than a commercial resort, they offer essential facilities including a modern shower house, vault toilets, and a dump station. Water enthusiasts will appreciate the multiple boat ramps and designated swimming beach, while shore anglers can utilize several well-maintained fishing piers scattered along the shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Visitors can enjoy premier fishing for walleye, white bass, and catfish right from their campsite. Just a short drive away, history buffs can explore the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park, the former home of the legendary showman. For a unique perspective on the region rail history, the nearby Golden Spike Tower offers a panoramic view of Bailey Yard, which is known as the world largest railroad classification yard.

Who This Park Is Best For

This recreation area is an ideal match for boaters and anglers who want immediate access to the water. It also appeals to the budget-conscious traveler who appreciates the peaceful atmosphere of state-managed lands over the crowded feel of private campgrounds. If you enjoy a natural environment where the focus is on the great outdoors rather than luxury amenities, Lake Maloney provides the perfect backdrop for your Nebraska RV journey.

Didn't see online about car permits. Thought I could pay 14 for a tent site. Found electric only, 30 plus 14 for out of state car pass. $44. Total. A little expensive.

The post about the gate being locked and a disaster is fiction. This is a fantastic place. I live close by, and I'm there all the time, day, night, on/off season.

The post about the gate being locked and a disaster is fiction. This is a fantastic place. I live close by, and I'm there all the time, day, night, on/off season. And no one would lie to anyone about anything to do with it on the phone... read all the reviews and make your own determination.

I called to find out about camping availability for tonight and was told it was open and we could camp. Got here and the gates are locked and no way in. Disaster.
