Lake Miami Park (Monroe County Park)
Overview
Lake Miami Park offers a serene escape into the heart of southern Iowa. Managed by Monroe County Conservation, this park centers around a beautiful 135-acre lake known for its clear waters and abundant wildlife. It is a destination where the pace of life slows down, allowing visitors to reconnect with nature through simple outdoor pleasures. Whether you are arriving for a weekend of fishing or a quiet stop on a cross-country journey, the park provides a refreshing, rustic atmosphere that showcases the natural beauty of the region.
Location & Surroundings
Located just a short drive northwest of Albia, Iowa, Lake Miami Park is tucked away within a landscape of rolling hills and dense timber. The park is adjacent to the sprawling Miami Wildlife Area, which expands the sense of isolation and wilderness. This position makes it an excellent spot for those who enjoy scenic rural drives and the sight of local wildlife, such as white-tailed deer and wild turkeys, frequently seen roaming the outskirts of the campground.
Amenities & Park Features
The park accommodates RVers with several electric hookup sites that provide a comfortable base for your stay. For those who prefer a more solid roof, modern cabins are also available nearby. On-site facilities include a boat ramp for easy water access, a playground for younger travelers, and well-maintained shower houses. Anglers particularly appreciate the fishing jetties located around the lake, while hikers can explore miles of primitive trails that wind through the surrounding oak and hickory forests.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While the lake is the main draw for largemouth bass fishing and kayaking, the nearby town of Albia offers its own charm. Visitors can explore the historic Albia Square, famous for its restored Victorian-era architecture and local shops. For history enthusiasts, the Monroe County Historical Museum provides insight into the area's coal mining and agricultural heritage. Back at the park, the lack of light pollution makes for incredible stargazing opportunities right from your campsite.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize peace and quiet over resort-style amenities. It is a haven for fishing enthusiasts and birdwatchers looking to immerse themselves in a diverse ecosystem. Families will find it a safe and engaging environment for children to play and learn about the outdoors. If your travel style involves unplugging from the digital world to enjoy the sounds of the woods and the water, Lake Miami Park is a perfect fit for your Iowa itinerary.

Beautiful, quite, peaceful, and hardly anyone there... but this was my first time there so I dont know if on different days and/or holidays there may be more people. My kids enjoyed the playground there as well!
