10/10 highly recommend! Tom and Glenda were the perfect host and hostess. They keep the grounds spotless and the trees are trimmed back to keep your rig from getting scratched. Shower house was clean and private. Beautiful lake side views. Quite and peaceful.

Nice shaded sites with good amount of space between. Being an older campground, sites may not be all that level. Ours was not. We were in a 24’ class C at site 22. Site 15 has the primo view. Very clean campsite and well taken care of by Tom and Glinda, two of the nicest and helpful people you will ever meet. We loved the well maintained grounds, with nice facilities, play area for kids, path down to the lake (watch out for blue algae). Firewood available for $6. We did not have issues with mosquitos while there for two days. Caught the weather just right. There was major road work being done in front of the camp, which was noisy (no fault of the camp of course). Hopefully that will be completed soon. We would definitely stop there again.

Excellent place to stay! The place was clean, quiet, and relaxing. There were a variety of camp sites: tents, 30 & 50 amp, some with full hookups too. They had nice showers, laundry, playground, a beach area to swim on the lake, and paddle boats to rent. Wish we could have stayed one more night. Plus it only cost $37!!

Awesome campsite. Stayed here for our pheasant hunting trip with the dog. We stayed at site c which had electricity. Water was off because of the cold but the campground has a heated bathroom with running hot water by the entrance. Site c was awesome it definitely felt the biggest and most secluded. Virtually nobody was there during our stay but I imagine it gets crowded in the warmer weather. Angela the coordinator was very helpful. Shout out to Alex who was working when we were there who helped us out and checked in on us. Great people in Mitchell, I highly recommend staying here. Will definitely be back.

Great experience, especially for pulling in around 7pm without a reservation. Camp Host was super helpful and gave us a longer site so we didn’t have to unhook. Level sites. Full hookups. Playground and paved road for biking kept the kids happy. Beautiful view & nice little beach and access to lake for swimming (currently closed due to blooming algae) Bathrooms were clean. Only problem we had were the dryers not drying clothes fully, which really happens about everywhere- just be prepared to give yourself enough time and quarters for 2 dryer cycles if doing laundry. Overall, very pleasantly surprised!

This campground is a hidden gem! It is easy to get to if you take the "by-pass" off the interstate and skirt the downtown to Main Street, then turn north to the campground. The campground is clean and well-maintained. They have sites that are definitely Big Rig friendly but not all, so just be careful when you make your reservations. The lake is beautiful and you can walk down some trails to a small beach. Some sites have a lake view but even those that don't are not far from the water.

Very nice small city owned campground right next to Lake Mitchell. About 1-1/2 mile N of downtown, yet quiet. Choose your spot carefully if a big rig, only a few spots where you will fit but doable. Would definitely stay here again when in the area. Don't miss spending time at the Corn Palace. Great history of the area.

We stayed at the Mitchell Lake Campground for two non-consecutive nights in mid-July. The campground is operated by the City of Mitchell and offers many RV sites with full hook ups and several tent sites with a variety of utilities provided. We did not book ahead/online but relied on the first come, first serve sites; on Mon/Thurs nights, there were many sites still available by evening. One cannot make a reservation within 48-hours of arriving but you can see day-of if there are RV/Tent sites which are available. We tented and both nights stayed over the hill by the lake in the G tent section. These four campsites offer potable water, close access to the beach trail, trash collection, and wonderful views of the setting sun. There were flat spots throughout the G section (G1-4) and it was easy to place our tent as well as park our car. Our neighbors were within eye site but wasn’t a huge issue. Both nights we also had a nice breeze coming through the site. There are tent sites in other sections which offer electric as well but we didn’t those were as flat. We met our friendly camp host while filling out the self-registration card at the front. He welcomed us and even stopped by later to make sure that we were getting in well. He also remembered us when we came back two nights later. The campground offers heated bathroom and showers, as well as a laundry and bike rental. There was also a playground and beach for the families and a little library across from the bath house. We were very happy with just how clean the bathhouse was and how up kept the sites were. The campground is located north of Mitchell and if you’re trying to reach it from I-90, we suggest taking SD 37 north. There are plenty of stores and food places within a short drive. Note that while not in the heart of Mitchell, it is clearly in a city; we heard very light road traffic and an early morning train whistle. Cell reception was very good, each of us getting 4+ bars. As said, we would definitely come back to the Mitchell Lake Campground the next time we’re in South Dakota. The location is perfect for heading to the Black Hills and the site is comfortable and offers appropriate services.
