Lake Roosevelt NRA/Gifford Campground

Overview

Gifford Campground offers a serene escape along the expansive shores of the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Situated on the banks of the 130-mile long reservoir created by the Grand Coulee Dam, this park provides a peaceful environment for those looking to reconnect with nature. Visitors can enjoy the dramatic contrast between the deep blue water and the ponderosa pine forests that define this unique section of Eastern Washington. It serves as a quiet access point to one of the state's most impressive aquatic landscapes.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the small community of Gifford, WA, the campground is surrounded by the fertile Columbia River Valley. This area is known for its rolling hills and proximity to local fruit orchards. One of the most distinctive features of the location is the nearby Gifford Ferry, which provides a scenic and free way to cross the river into the Colville Indian Reservation. The atmosphere here is quiet and rural, far removed from the bustle of major highways or large city centers.

Amenities & Park Features

As a National Park Service facility, Gifford focuses on providing a rustic, high-quality outdoor experience. The park features a paved boat launch and a seasonal dock, making it a favorite destination for water enthusiasts. While there are no utility hookups available, the sites are spacious enough for many RV sizes and offer access to potable water and vault toilets. Each campsite is equipped with a sturdy fire ring and a picnic table, providing the essential comforts for a classic dry-camping experience amidst the trees.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the water, where travelers can engage in world-class walleye and trout fishing throughout much of the year. Boaters can explore countless hidden coves along the shoreline or head north toward the historical sites and additional services in Kettle Falls. During the summer months, the surrounding valley comes alive with local produce stands, offering a taste of the region's agricultural heritage. The area is also a prime spot for birdwatching and wildlife photography, especially during the quiet morning hours along the lake.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize natural scenery and direct water access over luxury resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for anglers and boaters who want a functional, well-maintained base camp near the boat ramp. Those seeking a quiet retreat to enjoy the natural sounds of the Pacific Northwest will find Gifford Campground to be a refreshing and understated destination for their next road trip through Washington.

Has a great group site. And a lot of individual sites. Close to the water you don't have to go down a large hill side.

We had a great time camping here. Because it was so early in the year, we were able to book the group site and had it all to ourselves. The water and the restrooms had not even been opened up yet! We got to watch the ferry go back forth until about 9pm, then it was pure solitude. It was easy to forget how close we actually were to the road. I definitely recommend this place, but I imagine it gets much more crowded as the weather warms up. Visited 3/2022 ***I would love to add a few photos, but I just get the "upload pending" glitch 😿😿😿
