Lake Roosevelt NRA/Haag Cove

Overview

Haag Cove Campground sits on the western shores of Lake Roosevelt, offering a serene escape within the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Managed by the National Park Service, this spot is known for its peaceful atmosphere and direct access to the water. Unlike modern RV resorts, Haag Cove provides a back-to-nature experience where the sound of the wind through the ponderosa pines takes center stage for every visitor.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just south of Kettle Falls, WA, the campground occupies a picturesque peninsula. The landscape is characterized by gentle slopes leading down to sandy beaches and rocky shorelines. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by dense forests and the vast, blue expanse of the Columbia River reservoir. The scenic vistas across the water toward the eastern mountains make it a prime spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts seeking tranquility away from the highway.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a primitive camping location, meaning RVers should arrive prepared for a dry camping experience. While there are no electricity or water hookups at the individual sites, the park provides essential facilities including vault toilets and seasonal potable water stations. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings. A highlight for many visitors is the designated swimming area and the nearby boat launch, which facilitates easy water access.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities dominate the itinerary here, from fishing for walleye to paddling along the quiet coves. Just a short drive away, history buffs can explore the St. Paul’s Mission at Kettle Falls to learn about the region’s rich heritage. For those looking for a scenic drive, the Sherman Pass Scenic Byway offers incredible mountain views and high-elevation hiking opportunities. Nearby Kettle Falls provides local dining and grocery options for restocking supplies during your stay.

Who This Park Is Best For

Haag Cove is ideal for travelers who prefer a rustic environment over high-end resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for smaller RVs, camper vans, and truck campers due to the tighter navigation of the camping loops. If you enjoy stargazing, birdwatching, and a slower pace of life, this campground will suit your travel style. It is particularly popular with boaters who want to be steps away from the water in a quiet, forested setting.

Was an incredible stay. Was only a couple other people. I’m sure this place gets slammed during the summer. Will stay here again.

Campgrounds are clean, outhouses are well-maintained. Water levels were a little bit low on able to fish. Will definitely be returning here in the future.
